Solved BSOD after virus clean up, STOP:c0000135 file %hs is missing

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

first as far as i can tell, there is no file in windows called minidump or anything else with the .dmp ending but there is .dmp files within other files that are within the windows file.... as seen below.

ok, so I couldn't find a file ending in .dmp in the windows folder straight away so I did a scan on Ubuntu for all files on the C: drive that ended in .dmp needless to say a got quite a list.... unfortunatly none of these were directly in the windows folder, but about half of these were within foulders that were within the windows folder. I have no idea which of these are the ones we are looking for so I will give you a rough guide as to the location of each ( I cannot go through the exact location of each one as there are 105 files found, I am sure you dont want to go through that many ) all of these locations are on the C: drive.

the first 8 files are located around the area of (note that the part underlined changes slightly for each file):

ProgramData/Microsoft/Windows/WER/ReportQueue/Kernal_0_0_cab_0b41ed6a

the next 14 are as follows (all the same location):

Windows/LiveKernalReports/WATCHDOG

the next 1 is as follows:

Windows/SysWOW64/config/systemprofile/AppData/Local/CrashDumps

the next 2 are as follows:

Windows/Temp/AtherosAppDump

The rest are not in the windows folder and are concerning the steam app, Firefox crash reports, a few games and a few relating to my admin user account, if you need me to list these aswell just say the word, i wont because they are on a completly diffrent section of the C: drive and I assume have nothing to do with this.

I hope this helps, if what we are looking for is not here then its either invisible to ubuntu or doesnt exist (or something else )

second as i cant boot up window and am doing this through Ubuntu not sure if i can check to see if minidumps are enabled. Is there any way of doing this step in command prompt?

ok, so i edited my Startup and Recovery Settings using cmd and still couldnt find a file, so unless one of the files above is what you are looking for, I have no idea how to get it...
I will keep trying things, if you have any ideas send them my way.

Unsure but I doubt the DMP from those locations are what we want.

could it be that I didnt uninstall Norton properly (my previous anti virus) and that its conflicting with microsoft security essentials (installed when I got the virus) and that this could be causing the trouble?

If so do you know how I can check and if its true completly remove Norton without booting into windows 7 (maybe I could use ubuntu).

i am only replying cos i encountered the exact same bsod stop message as you on my friend's laptop but solved it by running system restore option from start-up repair options.

i am hoping that this may be helpful to others who might get this c0000135 stop message by having done the followings:

- i removed the trial-expired norton anti-virus
- i removed superantispyware free edition
- install firefox from a usb drive because IE and Chrome were problematic... couldn't get them to load results of searching for "ms security essential" (windows update was running all the while)
- downloaded and installed MSE and udpated it and after a quick scan found 19 infections: 18 severe alert levels and 1 medium web-browser hacker or somthing. i chose to remove all of those 19 infections.
- restarted as MSE required for completion of removal of infections
- just when desktop loaded, MSE asked again for another restart to complete removal of infections.
AND THAT IS WHEN I ENCOUNTERED THE BSOD STOP MESSAGE.

i first tried to system restore to Jan 01, 2012 and it failed, that is, system restore was not completed. i tried it again with the most recent system restore point and it now works fine but unfortunately with its 19 infections.

system spec: lenovo windows 7 home premium 64bit.

my friends lenovo laptop is now working fine. backed up all data to an external hdd and then restore OS to initial state using one-key recovery button. re-install MSE after removing macfee and now it works perfectly. already downloaded and installed more than 40 windows updates. also installed tuneup utilities 2011 among other stuff. hope this helps a bit.
