The long test came back clean on both my HD. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing.

Tests coming back positive are always good. It just means we need to test other possibilities.

• If you are overclocking any hardware, please stop.
  
  
• Monitor temperatures during the following tests.
  
  Use the following programs to monitor the temperatures.​
  • Real Temp is a good CPU temperature monitor.
  • Speccy - System Information - Free Download will monitor all hardware temperatures.
  • HWiNFO, HWiNFO32 & HWiNFO64 - Hardware Information and Analysis Tools can be inaccurate for CPU temperatures, but is a good program for GPU temperature monitoring.
  • Use FurMark: VGA Stress Test, Graphics Card and GPU Stability Test, Burn-in Test, OpenGL Benchmark and GPU Temperature | oZone3D.Net to test the graphics card GPU. Let it run until the GPU temperatures even out or until the GPU temperatures reach a dangerous level (you can find the max temperature for your card on either the nVidia or AMD sites; if you are not sure, ask us). The goal is to get a steady temperature, find out if the GPU is overheating, or to see if there are any artifacts present in the test itself: look for strange pixelated patterns on the screen or colors that do not look like they belong.
    
    
  • Run http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/100352-hardware-stress-test-prime95.html to determine any hardware problems. Run all three tests for a few hours each. If you get errors, stop the test and post back here.
    
    
  • Follow the steps for doing CPU stress test using IntelBurnTest

Provide us with your temperatures at idle and provide us with your temperatures during the stress testing.

Since I don't have a gfx card, I have an onboard gfx, I won't have to run that stress test right, just the hardware and CPU?

In this case, the FurMark test should be run with the onboard graphics. It may yield some clues. Just make sure to monitor your temperatures.

OK My idle temp is at around 46 celsius, and I ran the prime 95 for a few minutes and shut it off when the CPU reached 65 celsius. It only took a few minutes to reach 65 and it seemed like it was going to climb even higher and I stopped it since it felt like it might overheat. Should I keep going? Whats the maximum safe temperature I can run it at?

I would say we found the problem. You do not have adequate cooling in your system. The maximum temperature for your processor is 62 C. See AMD Processors for Desktops: AMD Phenom for your processor information.

Oh is it that simple? So do I need to buy a new cpu cooling system reapply some thermal paste and all will be well? Do you think my mobo or any other components have been damaged by the overheating and changes in temperature and need to be replaced as well?

It is probably that simple. Overheating can definitely cause the problems you have experienced. It is possible your CPU might have been damaged, but we will address that after getting the temperatures to a nominal range. So far, you have not gotten the usual errors indicating a bad processor, so hopefully it is fine. Re-apply the thermal paste and make sure your heatsink and fan are well attached to the processor. They should not have any play at all once snapped into place.

As you add and remove hardware, follow these steps for ESD safety:

1. Shut down and turn off your computer.
2. Unplug all power supplies to the computer (AC Power then battery for laptops, AC power for desktops)
3. Hold down the power button for 30 seconds to close the circuit and ensure all power drains from components.
4. Make sure you are grounded by using proper grounding techniques, i.e. work on an anti-static workbench, anti-static desk, or an anti-static pad. Hold something metallic while touching it to the anti-static surface, or use an anti-static wristband to attach to the anti-static material while working.

Once these steps have been followed, it is safe to remove and replace components within your computer.

OK so I got a new cpu cooling system and ran prime 95 and it never got above 47 celsius, it idles at around 34 degrees so I think it's pretty good. I left my computer on overnight and it didn't BSOD. However after I started to run google chrome and pages that required flash it BSOD, and also crashed. Attached is the error code I got after chrome crashed.

I already tried uninstalling flash and chrome and it still crashes or BSODs on me. I don't know if chrome is the culprit or is causing the problem though. Any suggestions? Thanks.

The most recent crash was caused by your C-Media Audio Driver. It is out of date and should be updated. C-Media Electronics, Inc.

Ok, I tried updated the audio driver. I downloaded it from that website and it installed, however when I go into the device manager, the date on the driver didn't change. Did it not install properly? Also, I haven't reinstalled chrome, do you think it is ok to reinstall it or is the problem related?

Try re-installing the audio driver again. What is the date given for the driver on the website?


To fully re-install a driver, use the following steps.

1. First, download the latest driver. Then do the next steps.
2. Click Start Menu
3. Right Click My Computer/Computer
4. Click Manage
5. Click Device Manager from the list on the left
6. Find the device you are trying to uninstall by expanding the appropriate set of devices
7. Right click the device
8. Click Uninstall (do not click OK in the dialog box that pops up after hitting Uninstall)
9. Put a tick in Delete driver software for this device (if this option is available, otherwise just hit OK) and hit OK
10. Restart your computer only if Windows asks you to.
11. Install the latest driver for the device.

Alternatively:

1. Login as an adminstrative user.
2. First, download the latest driver. Then do the next steps.
3. Click Start Menu
4. Click Control Panel
5. Click Hardware and Sound
6. Click Device Manager (the last link under Devices and Printers)
7. Find the device you are trying to uninstall by expanding the appropriate set of devices
8. Right click the device
9. Click Uninstall (do not click OK in the dialog box that pops up after hitting Uninstall)
10. Put a tick in Delete driver software for this device (if this option is available, otherwise just hit OK) and hit OK
11. Restart your computer only if Windows asks you to.
12. Install the latest driver for the device.

The date on the driver on the website is 2011-11-24. I did the steps above and reinstalled my driver and it still shows from 2009.

The BSOD is getting more frequent again, it crashed while I was using itunes and firefox.

I also just noticed that although the website says the most up to date driver is 8.17.4 and the driver date is 2011-11-24. Whenever I download that driver it downloads an older version 7.12.8.17.40 which is why it says the driver is from 2009.

All the more reason to contact C-Media and see what they can do for you. It sounds like they may have a bad link, so you may need to let them know about that. Can you provide me with the site where you find the link (not the link itself, just the site where the link is located)?

By the way, your C-Media driver is now more up to date. It is still old, but it at least is not pre-Windows 7 old.


The latest crash indicates memory or driver issues.
