Hello,
New member here and thanks in advance for looking.

I have a home built w7 Home Premium box we use almost exclusively for Windows Media Center. I started getting bsod's about a month ago and before that got distorted *pinkish* video on restart or bootup at times.

Tried using msconfig and changed settings and thought I had it but it resumed the pink screens (sometimes garbled colors i.e. squares and other shapes) so I bought a new video PCIe card, an XFX R6700. Thought this had it but it resumed the bsod's and sometimes graphic issues.

Saved our pics and such and did a clean install.
Worked fine for a couple days then back to the bsod's and pink graphics.

Having a hard time getting the crash files together for upload, new guy here so hopefully I'll get it figured out and add it. The directory created by SF_Diag is 34.1mb large and when I go to U/L size limits say nope. Pointers here maybe.

Thanks,
behoof

They say, "If mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy!" and this W7 box is for her TV <sigh> Help!

Hi there are no .dmp files in the upload, go to C:\Windows\Minidump and look for any files there, upload them in a zip or rar file. If none are there please follow this http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/174459-dump-files-configure-windows-create-bsod.html.
Then use this Driver verifier: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/101379-driver-verifier-enable-disable.html
Then run the sevenforums tool which can be found here : http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/92394-sf-diagnostic-tool-using-troubleshooting.html upload the results.

Skylais,

Thought I had it. I ran the SF Diagnostic Tool again and this is the directory I got. I looked at the files and see a bunch of .dmp files and a few others.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I've already d/l'd the most current video drivers from XFX. The driver version is the same as the one already installed but I'll remove the currently installed driver and install the freshly downloaded drivers.

Here's hoping,

Also quick question, Did the problem occur before you installed the latest driver?

No, actually it occurred while running the original install of W7 Home Premium. This condition is what finally caused me to do a clean install of W7. Then shortly after the new install it all began again. Memory dumps, page_faults in non-page etc.

Interesting is the fact that anytime I go into Safe Mode the screen will do the pink thing (lower right corner is pink and after boot up there's a green and pink hue).

When doing the fresh install I went out to all the various sites for the hardware I'm running and downloaded the most current drivers and I used the original Gigabyte chipset drivers also.

As of this evening, as I mentioned above, I D/L'd the current vid drivers for the XFX R6700 video card but haven't installed them yet.

As a matter of fact, I'm typing this on the W7 box in question.

As a side note, this afternoon after re-uploading my info, I got a flurry of BSoD's. Probably 6 or 7 of them but I wanted to wait until I heard from you to post all this.

Thanks, hope this info is useful. I'm pulling out hair <smile>

Ok have you tried reseating the graphics card if possible? It may work on another slot if you have one. After that i want you to run this :
Graphics: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/100356-video-card-stress-test-furmark.html (Do the above Graphics test only with the latest drivers, and then Run it until the temperatures stop increasing; should be less then 10 minutes. If you don't see any crazy glitches or distortion on the screen, The test most likely passed. Take note if the Temperature gets too high, or you see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visual_artifact to stop the test.)

Tried numerous times to use FurMark but error out every time I try to have it accept the advised settings. Googled it and not successful at finding a fix.

I can get it to take two of the suggested changes if I do them one at a time but when I attempt to have t Log it throws the error.

What do you think?

The error message is:

FurMark - swiss made a GPU stress test and OpenGL benchmark has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will lose the program and notify you if a solution is available.

Side Note: I have only (1) PCIe slot

Thanks great to see that everything is compatible with windows 7. Hmm wonder why i never asked before, how about changing monitors? if you have a spare around try it and see if the same problem occurs. As well all of those dump files are inconclusive and non beneficial. So let's try this to see if we can get a pinpointed driver. Upload the latest BSOD dump you get from this : Driver verifier: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/101379-driver-verifier-enable-disable.html
As well just for standard procedures, open cmd and type sfc/scannow. If it finds errors, run 3-4 different times with reboots in between. Let's try our best to hopefully fix your problem. Good luck for now, as i will be going to sleep. School tomorrow, anyhow looking forward to new dumps, cmd errors if it says it is finding and fixing any, as well as if the monitor changes anything.

Hi,

Tried monitor, no change... couldn't get back into normal start w7 with verifier running kept getting bsod saying, "usbfilter.sys" . Ended going to safe mode and closed verifier. Tried to run SF_Diag but it kept erroring out even after many re-boots and such. Went and grabbed mini.dmp's since 9-11-12 to current and attached them here.

Now going back to do a sfc /scannow's and see what turns up.

Hope that usbfilter.sys fault is of help????

Talk soon and thanks, behoof

Skylais,

Tried many, many times to sfc /scannow and sometimes got all the way through verification but it found errors and says it can't fix them and they should be listed in CBS Log , so I've attached that log file to this reply.

It says the "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unabl to fix some of them. No mention of what they are... will try to run sfc again / again.

behoof
