BSOD at random times (often at night when no one is using computer)

Hi,

I'm getting the BSOD at random times, with no pattern that I can figure out. Sometimes the crash happens while I'm working on the computer, sometimes it happens during the night when the computer is not in use. This computer is not used for games. I would say that 90% of what it's used for is web browsing. I've not noticed any patterns regarding what applications are running.

Anyway, I'm attaching the file created using the SF Diagnostic Tool. Hopefully those who are wise in the ways of BSOD can help me figure this out!

Sorry to say it looks like a virus
Why do I say this?
Many virus operate at night when the user is most likely asleep and will not notice the computer going crazy

The driver is scandisp.sys., which cannot be found in my data base. Most likely due to a virus.

Thanks for the response! I will go post in the virus section. I'll link back to this thread from there.

To clarify, is the culprit file scandisp.sys or is scmndisp.sys? When I google "scandisp.sys", I don't come up with much, but "scmndisp.sys" gives a lot of results about BSOD issues.

My apologies. As you get older the eyes play tricks. You are correct it is scmndisp. It is a driver produced by netgear. You can uninstall the software which was produced by Netgear. or try to update the driver

I have updated the driver. So far so good, but it sometimes goes a few days between BSODs. I will report back in this thread in about a week or so (for the sake of people who might have a similar problem)
