Hello,

I was running Windows 7 (64 Bit) Home Premium (OEM) on my Sony Vaio VCPEB36FG, I recently upgraded to Windows 10 and in about 2 weeks down I started getting BSOD (Videos_Failure_ATIKMDAG.SYS) and after a couple of restart it would work for a day or 2. Again the BSOD would appear.

So then using the Sony Vaio's builting in ASSIST I set the laptop to original factory setting, which ofcourse formatted the laptop and when it restarted after installation of windows completed, I still got the BSOD (Screenshot attached).

I tried the ASSIST again and begun from the start, the BSOD won't go away and the laptop won't start to complete the installation process. I tried to start in SAFE MODE but since it is a new installation Windows says "Windows cannot complete installation in Safe Mode. To continue installing Windows, restart this computer" Hence in a loop of only attached BSOD.

I am lost and need help, I am a graphic designer and this is my workstation.

Thanks in advance

Hi whosanemania,

Welcome to the 7forums.

I understand you can't boot into Windows at all?
The 0x116 indicates a graphical problem, either drivers or the GPU and everything related to the GPU.

What I am unable to understand is that even after doing a factory reset, which formats the hard disk and installs all drivers etc (I assume) that windows would continue to give this BSOD.

I have never had this error ever in the past, not even once.

In the BIOS, there are some diagnostics tests you can run to determine if this is a hardware error.
Please run these tests, prefered to test as much and advanced as possible. If after the tests have finished, you get a message asking if you want extended tests please do it.

hi axe0

thanks for your assist.

I ran Vaio Hardware Diagnostics in Vaio recovery and no errors were detected in CPU, Memory and Hard Disk. As for Bios, there seems to be no Diagnostic tests, is there an advance menu in Bios, I used F2 to enter the Bios.

You need to press the key that gives you the boot options.
In the boot options, there is an option called Diagnostic tests, choose that option and the tests should automatically start.

Hi,

I finally managed to format and Install Windows 7 Home Premium OEM on my laptop.

However as soon as I install latest drivers (ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 5650 Graphics) either from AMD, Sony Website or through windows update, I get BSOD of ATIKMSYS.DAG.

The only way to make my laptop run is to remove the drivers and let it run on basic windows graphic drivers (Standard VGA Graphic Adapter).

Now the Major problem is that my laptop runs SUPER SLOW and the CPU fan runs at full speed. I checked it is related to graphic drivers only.

what should i do?

Only install drivers from your manufacturer.
Use DDU to remove the drivers and try installing them again.
Please uninstall everything of AMD graphics using Display Driver Uninstaller and install new drivers from your manufacturer Sony Vaio.

Wow!!!!!!!!!!!

axe0 Thank you a million tons... DDU worked like a charm...

I downloaded DDU, uninstalled Display Drivers in safe mode. And then after restart I installed the Manufacturer's (Sony) display drivers and Voila! it worked.

The laptop restart and its worked. My CPU fan speed went down and Laptop is performing superbly.

I really appreciate your help... thanks a ton once again.
