I just built this PC on Thursday, and I've been getting a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) frequently that I've been unable to determine the cause of. I first noticed it while playing PC games, it typically runs for about 5-10 minutes before getting the BSOD and restarting. However, during my efforts of attempting to find the issue it has happened several times on the desktop as well (A few times while I haven't even done anything or been in the same room).

Here are some of the messages I get after the PC restarts:

BCCode 50 is the most frequent, but I haven't, for the life of me, been able to figure out what any of those codes mean. Microsoft's own website has nothing on them, you'd think after so many years and 7+ versions they'd be able to come up with some coherent error messages, but I digress.

So far I've tried the following:

-Updated the chipset drivers and nvidia drivers
-Done all the windows updates
-I've run a ram diagnostic which turned up no problems
-I've checked the temperatures and made sure the CPUs and GPU are not overheating
-I've run benchmarks of the CPU using SiSoftware Sandra Lite 2010 with no problems. However, when I tried to run benchmarks of the GPU, it was saying there was something unavailable and it couldn't run. It said to try updating the driver, which I'm 100% positive I did and updated the right one from Nvidia's website.
-Switched off suspicious BIOS settings such as a Performance Enhance feature that sounds like it may involve some overclocking settings.
-Tried Optimized Default and "Fail Safe" Default settings in BIOS
-Used an online wattage calculator to make sure I'm using a powerful enough power supply
-Disabled Microsoft Security Essentials as I've heard a few reports of that possibly causing issues

Another thing I've noticed, which I'm not sure is related, is that when the PC restarts after the BSOD the screen comes up that asks if you want to start into Safe Mode. The screens appearance is expected but it doesn't let me navigate to any of the options. It won't even work when I press [Enter] to start Windows normally, I have to wait for the countdown.

I've thought that the problem may stem from a faulty graphics card, but it seems strange since all the PC games (these are newer games that I've tried as well, Torchlight, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Half Life 2) run beautifully until the crash.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated. My Specs are as follows, and I will post a .dmp file as soon as I get the UAC turned off.

Power Supply has about 650 watts

Hey.

Update your Razer mouse driver as it is causing bsod:

copperhd copperhd.sys Tue May 23 23:51:13 2006

These are older and should be updated too:

Alpham264 Alpham264.sys Tue Mar 20 05:51:03 2007
Alpham164 Alpham164.sys Mon Jul 23 03:57:03 2007

But definitely get the mouse one going first.

Make sure your keyboard is attached to the back of the pc, to the motherboard. Go in the bios and enable USB Keyboard support or USB Legacy support.

Hey thanks for the reply, I'll try that. I'll laugh at myself if it turns out it was a lack of mouse software this whole time. I'm not sure what those other things are, but I'll look into it and update if there's something available.

It seems like I got a BSOD before I hooked up the razor mouse though (using my older mouse). However, I didn't install any software for the older mouse either.

I'll let you know if this works, thanks again.

Well I updated the mouse, and the other two files appeared to be having to do with my zboard. I updated both of the drivers and I'm still getting the BSOD, here's the latest dmps.

Use Rivatuner to put the fan on full speed and also make a slight underclock, to test.

Install the latest drivers for the motherboard, especially chipset:

http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherboard/Driver_Model.aspx?ProductID=3012&ost=windows+7+64bit#anchor_os

Find out which revision motherboard you have and install the latest bios too.

I've got the newest bios and chipset drivers, downloaded them from Gigabyte's website yesterday. My google search seemed to show that the Alpham items had something to do with Zboard, maybe not. The strange thing is that the dates say 2007 when this computer was just built 3 days ago. Those must have been from an auto install through Windows Update or something.

I'll look into the Alpham's some more and try the Rivatuner. I'll let you know what happens, thanks again!

I'm at a loss as to what to do about the Alpham drivers. It says they are from Ideazon, and the only thing I have from them is my keyboard. I've updated its driver so I don't know why those are still saying 2007.

RivaTuner 2.24 says it doesn't support my driver when I start it, and it won't let me change the fan speed. I was following the guide here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rXr6IIj1sLY

I get to the part near the beginning where you create custom fan setting profiles and every time I drag the slider to 40% and hit apply it resets back to 60%

I tried the Rivaturner fan speed again, and it can go higher, just not lower than 60%. So I'll try this and post the next update when I've got it.

I'll also try to underclock first if this doesn't work (I'm avoiding this for now as I haven't overclocked it at all it's been running at factory settings), thanks again.

You're welcome. Put the fan at 100% and test playing your favorite game. Slight underclock, only for testing, is highly recommended as well.

The problem appears to be resolved. I issue was actually that my ram was advertised to be able to run at a speed that was actually too high for it (which I'm told isn't uncommon). I reduced the ram speed in the BIOS and I haven't had a BSOD in several hours of game play.

Thanks again for your help torrentg.
