So this post is not for me specifically but I am trying to help my friend who just built a new computer and isnt terribly computer savvy. Ive tried telling him to update his graphics card and sound card drivers to solve this issue but it is still happening and he says it is happening more frequently. I am not sure if the updated sound card drivers he installed were compatable with windows 7 which is why i am fairly sure that this is the problem but i am not 100% on this i asked him for a zip of his minidump files and will add them to this post as well as two pictures of the two bsod errors he has recieved. These bluescreens happen fairly randomly as well and sometimes dont happen for a hour or two.
Thanks in advance for any help on this it will be tough for me to try and talk him through this heh.

There are 15 DMP files that is going to take a while. I am doing them now.

Also, it would be easier if we could communicate with your friend (if possible) because it is more efficient.

So many bugchecks, I have to wonder if it's hardware. Four dmps blame the graphics card or its drivers, so let's start with that.

Uninstall the graphics drivers and install the latest version from the box at the bottom of this post.

Try a RAM test. Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

If BSODs continue, please upload the new dmps. You can delete all of them now, so that we don't get confused with new ones.

Thanks jonathan I let him know about this topic and he should be making an account to give direct feedback about it I will tell him in the meantime to uninstall and reinstall the current drivers. Do you sugguest uninstalling them in safe mode or would the normal way work fine?

If you can uninstall them in Normal mode, go for it. Safe Mode is for when other drivers and services are locking them up.

I see a lot of USB activity during the crash. What devices do you have connected via USB?

Hey jonathan. I asked him about his usb peripherals and he said the only thing he has in a usb port is a mouse. his microphone is normal microphone jack and his keyboard is a p2. I will see if I can help him out with the memtest tomorrow.

Try disabling the nForce firewall. Uninstall the nVidia Network Access Manager in Programs and Features.

What mouse is it?

Hey everyone. I finally got around to going down to my friends place and do the memtest with him. I only had time to stick around for one pass but right at the end of the first pass two errors showed up.

Test: 5 Pass: 1 Failing address: 001d8eea1c8 - 7566.9 MB Good: 00100004 Bad: 00100000 Err-bits: 00000004 Count: 1

And

Test: 5 Pass: 1 Failing address: 001dceea128 - 7630.9 MB Good: 00100004 Bad: 00100000 Err-bits: 00000004 Count: 2

He left it running when I left so I will see how it is when he gets back. This occured at 45 minutes right neat the end of the first pass which is usually the time he has before his comp crashes however sometimes it crashes before it fully loads windows which he hadnt told me until now. Think its something related to the ram?

EDIT: also I think the mouse was a microsoft general usb mouse Jonathan.

I would say he most definitely has either some bad RAM or a bad Ram slot on the motherboard. How many RAM sticks does he have? He will need to test each stick individually to isolate the bad one.

Hey Carl, He has three sticks of 2gb ddr3 ram in triple channel slots. these are OCZ Gold triple channel sticks in a EVGA X58 sli le motherboard (which has six slots (two triplechannel)) should he test each stick by themselves?

Edit: well I now realize my question was stupid you answered it in your last post heh.

My Computer

OS
Windows XP SP3
Yes, and then he needs to take a known good stick and test each slot with that stick to make sure he does not have a bad slot.

SOLVED!

Ok so after looking more closely at his ram sticks and their settings in the bios it appeared that his motherboard read his rams required voltage incorrectly. it was too low for the ram to run properly at the speed that it was set at (1.50 volts) when it should have been running at 1.65. Changing his voltages manually in the bios to 1.65 solved all of his bsod issues and he is not recieving any more of them.

Just want to thank you guys for all your insight and help on this issue. so, thanks!

I am glad to hear the problem is solved. RAM was the problem; but not because the RAM itself was bad. Good detective work and thank you for posting back with the solution.
