Heres what it shows causes the crash when I use bluescreen view. I went ahead and updated Magic ISO. Still crashed in normal mode within a couple minutes : (... I really want to just get it repaired. A friend of mine gave me a windows 7 repair CD but when I try it it only says that it could not repair some of the errors and to send off the information. I have most of my files backed up to an external hard dive, but the main reason I dont want to do a fresh install is because I have two programs on here that are a bitch to install. I'm a musician and record from home and this would cause a lot of problems if I had to do a fresh install.

ntoskrnl.exe and hal.dll are not the real causes of the crashes.

You may give another try, first by removing magiciso from startup, and if it still crashes, uninstall it totally. Virtual driver mounting programs are all problems.

:) Just an info, AVG is one of the most problematic antivirus programs. It causes BSODs for its own a lot of times. I would suggest you to use the antivirus which is designed as the best fit with windows 7's system, that is Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Antivirus for Windows.

Most trusted ans most problem free antivirus for windows 7 .

Ran AVG rescue CD. Found 11 items, healed 11 items. Still have a blue screen.... I'll run security essentials now. Meanwhile is there anything else I could be trying?

Apparently nothing more is needed.

Let the system run, if it crashes again, report back.

A friend of mine gave me a boot CD with windows on it since the recovery CD I made did not work. Whenever I try to boot it and do a clean install I get an error: "Failed to save startup options". I've also tried going into safe mode and clicking the "setup" file to install Windows Home Premium. Same errors. It seems the only thing I'm able to do is keep it in safe mode (sometimes).

My apologies for jumping in. If this was already discussed, a second apology. What is the bit-ness of the boot CD your friend gave you? That last error message seems to indicate you're trying to upgrade from 32-bit to 64-bit or downgrade from 64-bit to 32-bit. That has to be done via a clean install, not upgrade. (You can only go 32-bit to 32-bit or 64-bit to 64-bit on upgrades.)

You should have asked first about doing a Clean Reinstall since these forums are the foremost authority on them.

Follow these steps to prepare, run and maintain a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 using the installer provided for your licensed version.

Due to infection and other issues you describe prepare the HD first by running Diskpart Clean Command from installer accessing DISKPART At PC Startup.

In addition check for newer BIOS update, reset BIOS to defaults, set SATA controller to AHCI, HD to boot first in BIOS setup.

Then trigger the installer to boot using one-time BIOS Boot Menu key.

There are several to choose from. Initially, I tried the same OS as the one I currently have, but no matter which one I choose I receive the same errors.

Follow the steps I gave above. Use the installer we provide as the AIO is likely problematic.

Okay... I'm going to download my version of the OS from the link you gave me. I'll try and run Clean Command after I reset the BIOS, ect. and report back. I'm off to work now though, but thanks so much for your help. This is a pain in the a$$.
