Hi,

I have a 2 week old HP Envy 14, running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit, 4GB Ram, and an ATI Radeon HD 5650 Graphics card.

Initially for the first few days the notebook worked well, no problems. This week, I encountered the dreaded BSOD. The notebook had trouble shutting down or restarting, taking 10-15 minutes or so. Upon rebooting, I get a BSOD with DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE message.

I also encountered the USB not recognizing anything that was connected to it after the computer started. If the mouse/ thumbdrive was connected before the computer booted up, it worked. If it was disconnected after booting up, and reconnected the mouse/ thumbdrive would not work. I do not get anything (no error messages or acknowledgement that anything was connected).

I checked the Device Manager, and there are no error messages.

Strange this is, these problems happen sporadically. Sometimes everything works well- USB working as it should, not issues restarting etc. Upon rebooting, the problem starts again.

I've tried updating the latest Win updates, drivers, HP bios etc but still no luck.

Please help. Thank you in advance.

Hi cabe and Welcome to SF!

First of all, hpdskflt.sys was mentioned in the crash dmp, it belongs to HP Mobile Data Protection System Disk Filter. I would download and install fresh copy of the driver, or might be uninstall it to see if it has anything to do with the crashes you've experienced.

For the mouse and thumbdrive, you might want to have their drivers installed properly, or perhaps you might want to try to have fresh re-install of USB driver by going to Device manager, under USB list you uninstall everything then restart your system. (To go to Device manager, right click on computer and choose manager)

In looking through your driver, I can see some out of date one:

Hi Tran,

Thanks very much for the reply and the welcome :D

1. With regards to the USB drivers, I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but the same problem occurs.

2. I've checked HP's website for the driver hpdskflt.sys, but cannot find it. Please advise how to uninstall or update these driver. Is this the driver for the HP 3D Driveguard? If I uninstall the Driveguard program, will this also uninstall the driver?

3. Finally, upon further searching, this poster has exactly the same issue as me, but his was caused by the Toshiba Drive Protection.

Please advise> Thanks again

An update:

I've updated the hpdskflt.sys through device manager, and over the weekend I had no BSOD issues. The 3D DriveGuard is also working (where previously it wasn't).

Today the same thing happened, again, USB ports not working, took a long time to restart (10-15 minutes)- then the dreaded BSOD report.

I also noticed that this problem only happens in the office and not at home. I am not sure why.

I am attaching another report, please help. Thanks again in advance.

I have just tried the sfc/ scannow. The results were that "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations"

Again, it's still show up in the dmp. I would suggest you to remove the driver if possible

Hi Tuan,

Another update:

Your last post really helped. I was trying to understand why my notebook worked perfectly at home and gave problems at the office. By process of elimination, the only difference is that I am connected to a network printer and a network drive (D-link 323) in the office.

I believe the issue is the network drive's driver (umbus.sys), as it seems to have caused a conflict with the HP 3D DriveGuard driver hpdskflt.sys (although this doesn't show up in Device Manager).

I disabled the Dlink driver and so far, I've restarted 3 times without problems- all USB ports working. Here's hoping that it stays that way.:D

Tuan, you've been a great help and saved me a ton of trouble by not going back to factory state (as HP would have advised).

Thanks!!!!
