BSOD Driver Power State Failure 0x0000009f (ntoskrnl.exe)

I've been experiencing this BSOD on and off for a while now, and after doing some research came across a forum post suggesting to do a memtest. I've only had time to run it for 3 passes and will try for the full 8 later in the week when I have more time.

I thought I would start a thread to make sure there are no other underlying issues that could be the cause of the BSOD. Attached are the SF Files. Thanks!

The dedicated GPU is totally out!!! Does a restart brings it back?

Yes, a stop 0x9F can do it, based on sleep/hibernation settings and it is often seen for Optimus Technology/Switchable graphics. It is not the first instance.

As the GPU is causing continuous issue over a time, I would suggest you to contract Dell/Alienware servicing center.

Hi Arc, what do you mean by the GPU is out? The GPU was replaced in April 2013 because it burnt out! Do you think it is a similar problem?

See ..... it lists the onboard graphics only, the dedicated GPU is not listed at all!

Hi Arc, this was the exact same problem I had last year which turned out to be the GFX Card shorting itself out! Although I restarted the computer a couple of times and I can access the nVidia GPU settings. I guess a call to Dell is in order!

I think one more thing. Stop using Nvidia optimus and the onboard graphics. Use the nvidia GPU only. Hope it will provide a better health to the GPU (though the reverse is said and believed).

How do I disable optimus?

First boot into the BIOS. Disable onboard GPU.

Then do a http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219487-clean-reinstall-factory-oem-windows-7-a.html and dont do anything that is not stated there. While installing drivers, dont install any driver or component from nvidia other than teh display driver and the physx software.
