Solved BSOD 'driver power state failure', randomly occurs

Hi, I have been searching answers for this for weeks but I can't seem to find a fix for it.
My laptop is Acer E5-572g with GT840M graphic card.
It happens when I installed the driver for the GT840M (I tried the drivers from the CD, acer's website, nvidia's), at first it happened after gaming (not in the games, but randomly occurred sometimes a few mins, sometimes an hour). and when the laptop came back on again, sometimes the GT840 in the device manager went missing and everything works fine (because it's not working) but if it still shows up on the device manager, it will go BSOD randomly again. So in the end I had to remove the driver for the gt840 because it was totally unusable and had to use the on-board's instead.
I also tried the power setting, putting everything about the graphic card into Maximum performance, in windows power plan, intel's, and nvidia's control panel, which didn't work. Removing Daemon tool also didn't work.

I attached the file from the dm log collector.

ps. May be it's a problem with the hardware itself? if that's so then I'm totally screwed, because I'm abroad and have to be here for the next 6 months

The 9F Bug check happens when the screen goes black. Does the BSOD happen then? The DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE have happend to me alot. I would try to update the video drivers.

before the BSOD happens, usually everything would just freeze, I can move my mouse around but wouldn't be able to click anything. But I have never actually timed it, so maybe it happens when the screen goes black.
But as I've mentioned, I tried the drivers from the cd's that came with the laptop, acer's website, and nvidia's. none of them seems to fix this for me.

Hi beecool.

You have got a particular variant of stop 0x9F, which is most common in nature. A lot of laptops with switchable graphics controlled by nvidia optimus technology suffers from this issue, continuously. Only successful remedy is to abandon either of the graphics (nvidia dedicated or intel integrated).

Decide which display/graphics you can sacrifice. While deciding, keep it in mind that the nvidia display will drain the battery quickly but games will be better. On the other hand the intel display will hold the battery charge for longer, but games will not be that good with it.

It is complicated to achieve the goal. Will suggest you the possible ways after coming to know your decision.

Thank you. I don't really mind about the battery, because it's always plugged in. So I would go with the nvidia.

There is no BIOS update available for Aspire E5-572G.

Thank you for your reply, but there's no video options in the BIOS, so I'm trying to install the Nvidia driver to see if it might show up, but it won't install because the card is missing in the device manager, and it says 'does not meet the requirement' (or something) so now I'm trying to get it shown up again.

That's another form of the pain caused by optimus technology. The nvidia graphics will be active and useable only when the optimus wants it, you have no control there.

Before optimus makes the nvidia display active, the system runs with the integrated Intel graphics only.

If you enter into nvidia control panel > manage 3D settings, and then make the nvidia graphics the preferred one for everything under both the global settings and program settings, can you access the nvidia GPU now?

OEM BIOS lockup policy. The owner/user does not have the permission to access the BIOS. And there is no BIOS update that can unlock it. Installing latest version of the display driver will not bring it up.

Contract the vendor. Tell them that you want the nvidia display only, not the intel one. Ask them to manage it for you. Nobody other than the vendor/manufacturer has the access to the BIOS to do it.

Well, I guess I'd have to buy a ps3 to play some games instead lol, because as I've said I'm currently outside of the country I bought it from :shock:.
I will try to contact ACER in Uk to see if they will do it for me though.
