Solved BSOD even after reset to factory settings 0x116

I have a lenovo u400 laptop and i am currently running on safe mode with networking as its the only way i can use my laptop. I have gotten the bsod a few times in the past year but it would only be every few months so i wasnt worried about it. yesterdya i got it while on youtube and my laptop was running hot. startup repair and system restore did not help. neither did resetting to factory settings. when i reset to factory settings it worked for a few hours and then i got the bsod again. i followed the steps running the DM log collector and attached the compressed folder to this thread post.

please help as i am on break and need my laptop for the new semester

i also have attached a "dump file" i downloaded blue screen view and it gave me the codes and whatnot if that would help

As you already know you are having a video TDR error (Time Delay and Response) meaning your drivers have crashed and do not recover in the time allotted, so Windows assumes a graphics error and shuts down in order to keep from causing damage. But we need to know what hardware we are dealing with to determine anything much further.

Use !analyze -v to get detailed debugging information.

As you can see your drivers are seriously out of date and need to me updated from Lenovo's web site.

ok @essenbe i did what you said. i also attached a picture in the original post of the system specs.

by the way, last night i uninstalled my amd graphics in device manager. my computer ran fine without needing to go into safe mode. So i went to lenovo website and reinstalled the amd driver for my model and i got the BSOD again. is something wrong with the one on lenovos website?

You may have a failure of your graphics card. That is not a diagnosis, but a possibility. The problem with switchable graphics is the time they take to switch from one to the other. The only way I have found to be successful is to disable one or the other. The decision is better graphics or longer battery life. See if you have an option in BIOS to disable switchable graphics for now anyway. Otherwise try in CCC to disable the card or in Device manager. See if that makes a difference. Just make sure you have the driver for the on board graphics, before doing that. I am assuming that is what you are using now. Be sure to create a restore point (http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/697-system-restore-point-create.html) before doing anything. But from what you said in your last post, that's pretty much what you did last night.

I won't be around for much of the day today. I'll try to check in when I have a chance though. Let me know what you decided to do, and are you sure you installed the correct driver? Most OEMs, alter their drivers for the way they configure the systems to work, so downloading from AMD usually won't work.

i disabled the amd graphics in my device manager and my computer started just fine with no bsod. only thing is the resolution is not great. only options i have are either 1024x768 or 800x600. also i cant change the brightness on the screen. when i had previously uninstalled the amd driver i got the same results as i havhe now by disabling it. i am pretty sure i installed the correct driver.

i got it from lenovo from that link, not from the amd website. when i had uninstalled my driver and reinstallled it from the linnk i posted, i got the bsod again.

It's a 2011 driver anyway, but it doesn't say what card it's for. They haven't kept up to date with the drivers.

so after i disabled amg graphics in device manager, i got a system update it was a 1gb update.
after the update i decided to enable amd graphics. after enabling it and restarting the computer it booted up with no bsod, then 30 seconds after getting to my desktop screen went black and then bsod again. i really dont know what to do. is my graphics card damaged?

i uninstalled the amd driver and tried installing the driver directly from amd and it didnt work. so i reinstalled the driver from lenovo website and immediately as soon as the installation finished i got the bsod. i dont see how all of a sudden the driver is causing the bsod when ive had this laptop for over 2 years

I'm sorry but I can't answer that, I wish I could. It's sounding like the Graphics card has malfunctioned. It will probably say the driver crashed though. Maybe we'll get lucky.

If you would, please run check disk (http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.html) and the long and short test with Seatools (http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/313457-seatools-dos-windows-how-use.html#Part3) Run the DOS version if you can, if not you can use the installed version.

Also try this and make sure you have the latest version od DirectX, which you probably do. How to install the latest version of DirectX

I have the latest direct x. I ran a disk check before and it took so long and it didn't do anything. I followed the instructions for the dos thing but the instructions are kind of hard to follow. I downloaded the program and put it on a CD. I booted the cd by entering bios and the agreement came up. I accepted it and didn't have an option of long or short test. It said I.couldn't detect the hard drive or something and the only option was to exit.

I did not. I just tried and the only other option is compatible. There is no ide ata option

Then install Seatools for Windows and run it.

Ok I just restored to factory settings again. I couldn't boot in safe mode every time the only options were start up repair and start windows normally. Should I wait for another bsod or just do it now? Last time I restored to factory settings it.took around 2 to 3 hours to get a bsod

Well something is wrong. To finish factory reset I have to reboot. Upon doing so I got the bsod.... It then looped back to start up and gave the options for safe mode and when I chose that it says it won't finish factory reset in safe mode...
