My laptop keeps freezing, sometimes it recovers after a couple of minutes, the last time it was around 10 minutes before I forced it to restart. Sometimes it's followed by a BSOD, sometimes the BSOD just comes unexpectedly. The laptop is only about a year or so old. My first thoughts were to check the display drivers as that's the usual culprit, but they're up to date. I've done windows updates too. I'm a bit worried that it might be a hardware issue.

This is the system error that I get when my laptop has restarted after the BSOD.

Hi ClaireDC.

BugCheck DEADDEAD means MANUALLY_INITIATED_CRASH1.

But here we are seeing some intel WiFi driver is causing some issues there.

You have two options here.

1. Update the driver yourself from https://downloadcenter.intel.com/default.aspx

2. upload your MSINFO32.nfo file so that we can help you to find the appropriate driver.

  1. Click on the start button
  2. Type "msinfo32" (without quotes) in the search bar of the start menu, click the resulting link. It will open the System Information window.
  3. File>Save. In the "File Name" filed, put "MSINFO32" (without Quote), give the save location to desktop, and click the "save" button.
  4. Give the time for processing, it will save a .nfo file on your desktop.
  5. Zip it, and upload it following the instruction.

Hi Arc,

Do you know, WiFi adapter drivers never come to mind when thinking about which drivers I should/need to update - thanks so much for your help. I've zipped the MSINFO32 information and am including it in this reply. Thanks again.

Claire. x

Perfect, thank you. I have downloaded and ran the file, it did a bit of an animation and then nothing... but I checked device manager, checked with the network adapter that you specified and it says the best driver is being used now. So should this have fixed the issue now?

You are star for this, thank you so much. x

I assumed it to be the drivers only one, and thus a smaller file size... and I have 64 bit Windows 7. Did I choose right?

I did download both initially, and used the one mentioned above, but was curious to see what the other one said, and when it came up with a menu for 'upgrading and customizing' I just clicked exit. x

Also noticing that my net still keeps dropping, and that when streaming sets from soundcloud that they keep stuttering massively, like m laptop is still freezing, but the sound goes all distorted. Could there be another issue, or is it that this issue isn't solved?

Scratch that, I downloaded the set and played it in Winamp, it's still doing it. x

If you try the wireless_16.1.5_s64.exe one, what happens?

Also, If you want to install the driver from device manager, the perfect procedure is: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/97061-driver-install-device-manager.html

Try it.

It is unfortunate thaty you have chosen an antivirus that causes network blockage, too. Uninstall AVG, at least as a test. Use Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus with windows inbuilt firewall, and free MBAM as the on demand scanner.
Download, install and update those, and then run full system scans with both of them, one by one.

Also, Free up the startup. Windows does not need any other program to auto start with it, but the auto start programs often conflicts and causes various problems including BSODs.

  1. Click on the Start button
  2. Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
  3. Select the “Startup” tab.
  4. Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
  5. Apply > OK
  6. Accept then restart.
Then, upload your MSINFO.nfo for one more time. We need to check that the WiFi adapter driver is properly updated or not.
