Hi all, I've been having problems with BSODs lately. Attached are the files asked for in the posting instructions.

I've looked at the dump files myself, and they all seem to point at vwififlt.sys which indicates a wifi driver issue. However, I've tried reinstalling them through Windows - uninstall, reboot, let Windows find appropriate drivers. Which doesn't fix the problem. I've also tried finding the latest drivers from the manufactures' websites but those seem to cause more problems as wifi completely stopped working when those were installed.

A little bit about my system:
Gateway M-1631U
Windows 7 Professional 64bit - retail copy
Originally ran Vista Ultimate 64bit
Laptop is about 3-3.5 years old
OS Install is about 2.5 years old

I believe that's everything I need, but let me know if there's any other info needed. Thanks everyone!

Well I am not on my computer with my degbugging software on it right now
I can tell you this though.
vwififlt.sys is the windows wifi device filter driver.

Have you gone to gateway directly to see if they have a updated version of the wifi drivers for your system?
Windows update is not always 100% on this.

...ps. it's also possible a problem with your firewall or security software is causing the issue.
Removing and reinstalling it should ifx the problem if that is the case.

Jhall,
Very convienient for those trying to evaluate problems is when your computer system specs go with you rather than being tied to some post.

Go ahead and fluff out those specs and here is how:

UPDATE YOUR SEVENFORUMS SYSTEM SPECS

User CP (3rd item in the top menu bar) |
in left-hand column, under Your Profile, Edit System Spec |

Use Speccy - System Information - Free Download
and/or SIW to gather info for filling in the blanks.

Do me a favor. Please add the word laptop or desktop to the “system manufacturer” block.

Provide full windows version info, such as provided by Speccy:
MS Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1

Use the “Other Info” block for Optical Reader, Mouse, touchpad, wifi adapter, speakers, monitor

Scroll down and click on the SAVE CHANGES button.

Now I'll take a look at the zip file.l I'm not the most experienced in that area but I'll give the good ol' college try.

I've been playing around with new wifi drivers and I finally got one that didn't just leave my wifi disabled. I'm tentatively saying that the problem is fixed because I've been able to visit all the sites that would lead to crashes before. However, last time I used windows update to find drivers there was a brief time when I didn't get crashes, so I don't want to call this one solved yet.

Regardless, I'll work on posting system specs to my profile and take a look at other system drivers.

Thanks for your help so far, everyone!

jhall,
Thanks for fluffing out the system specs.

Win 7 is not XP. Playing with drivers can be disastrous.

Win 7 comes with a very solid slate of drivers.

That said, I recommend that you start at the Gateway site and fetch the latest bios update for your laptop. Then go back the site and fetch the latest WIN 7 drivers for your laptop.

Remember Win 7 has three wondeful features:
1. Driver roll- back via the Device Manager,
2. System Restore points which will make a snapshot of your registry.
:orb: | type Create Restore Point | Enter
3. A system image backup that works perfectly:
:orb: | type Backup and Restore | ENTER

There is an excellent tutorial on creating a SYSTEM IMAGE BACKUP.
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/663-backup-complete-computer-create-image-backup.html

Microsoft teminology is confusing!

To add to the confusion, there is also a SYSTEM REAPIR DISC.

Now that is not an image restore, that is not your Gaateway recovery disc. What it is although is a life-saver when you find that you can't boot you computer or need to perform certain repairs without the normal Win 7 running.

CREATE A SYSTEM RESTORE DISC
:orb: | type System Repair | Enter | Create Disc

Fits on a CD. You do not need, but can use a DVD
