Solved BSOD help

Set the RAM manually to 1.55 or 1.56 if 1.55 option is not available.

For the NB, select 'Normal' setting and check if this will let you see the current voltage.
If it is 1.1v change it to 1.2v.
Let us know the NB voltage.

hi, sorry for the late reply i've been away.

Just to confirm there is no option to select normal, and i can't view the current voltage at all, it is on AUTO and that can be changed to anything else... the only thing it will let me do is manually enter a figure so shall i enter the voltages as above and try that?

Ok, so last night i changed the voltages as above, rebooted with memetest and left it on over night.

Got back to it this morning, 10 passes, no fails.

rebooted it again and it's all working fine, at the moment.

The problem of bsod usually occurs when i first boot it, usually when it's been switched off for a while, it's fine once booted and if i put it into sleep mode and restart so i'll have to test it again once it's been switched off.

Would you suggest running memetest again when i reboot, or just see how it goes?

Good news on the memtest pass.

If you have been having BSODs when you first boot after the system has been off for at least 4 hours, then yes definately run memtest first thing when you boot up.

This will cause an error if the settings didn't fix it, is the best way to check it.

I turned the pc off yesterday, rebooted a few hours later and redone the memtest, 7 passes.

I then used the pc with no problems, and then turned it off last night.

I have just rebooted it now and before it even got to windows starting up i got a BSOD.

The error at the top of the blue screeen was:

SRV.SYS

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON PAGED AREA

I've rebooted again and it's started fine and i got the messsage about windows has recovered form an unexpected shutdown and this is what was in the error:

Change the RAM timings 'Command Rate' to 2T.

Bump the NB to 1.22v

Run memtest86+ at cold boot.

I've set dram timing to both, bumped the nb to 1.22 and ran memtest, it all passed fine but i'm still getting a blue screen intermittently on or just after start up

I am also now getting the computer freezing when left for a while and i get a black screen

any idea as to whats now causing this? Is it all memory related?

It is possibly caused by RAM but, there are other possibilities, could be the motherboard, memory controller that is integrated in your CPU, power supply.

Lets check the RAM out first.

Please confirm that you tested the RAM with:
DRAM 1.55v
NB 1.22v
Command Rate at 2T

If these settings were what you used to test last time, then bump the DRAM to 1.6v, then the settings will be:
DRAM 1.60v
NB 1.22v
Command Rate at 2T

Run memtest86+ at cold boot.

Let us know the results.

If this voltage bump doesn't help, can you get another two RAM cards to test your system?

That would confirm if it is the RAM causing the errors/BSoD.

The majority of the time cold boot errors/BSoD's are caused by faulty RAM, sometimes adjusting the settings will help but, usually end up returning the RAM.

Let us know how the test goes.

Thanks for the reply, as I said earlier I can't find the option to change command rate to 2T

The only one I've got is dram timing mode and I've got the options of

Auto, DCT0 DCT1 or BOTH, no 2T

So at the moment I've got dram 1.55 and nb 1.22 and dram timing mode to both

If I were to get some more ram can I just fit them with the same settings that I have altered or put them
Back to auto?

ok it's been over a week now and so far so goood, no BSOD, so fingers crossed

One question, if i was to put more ram in this pc and it was a different brand, would that work ok and will the voltage settings be ok with the new ram?

Glad to hear it's been running stable for you.
Thanks for letting us know the status.

It's best to try to get the exact same RAM that you have now or buy all new RAM and keep the old one for spare or sell it.

Be sure you get the same timings, voltages and brand. Same part number. Even then, if they changed any spec or upgraded any components, it might not run together.

Mixing RAM from different manufactureres usually doesn't work, at best you will be changing settings and running tests for weeks trying to get it to work.

well it came back again tonight when i booted up :( I'm going to try some different ram in it and i'll post back what i find, it runs fine when on and if i just put it in sleep mode.

It's just from a cold start it BSOD virtually straight away but then runs fine when rebooted ..strange and very frustrating
