Receiving the following BSOD Stop Error 0x0000008E (oxc000005, 0x83632f8b,oxafifb64c, oxooooooo) When this started the power brick is not recognized by the bios but when the battery is removed the laptop will power up. I have downloaded the latest bios update from HP. Can/should the update be ran from safemode or is the USB boot method the best? Any other suggestions with this error is appreciated.

OS Windows 7 Professional 32 Bit. Machine is a year and a half old.

Thanks for the thread. I have perused the thread and it definitely sounds that I may very well have a memory and/or bios related problem. I read a bit about Memtest. Is this a free software that I can download and run? Can it be ran in SafeMode? This machine works fine in safemode. Also, I purchased this computer new through a third party who sells HP products. I had them upgrade the memory at the time of purchase. I don't know what type or product name of the memory they installed. So, this really makes me question the memory. If have purchased Kinston memory in the past without any problems. I need to have a reliable repair here. As you can see from my username, I am an accountant and this machine has been the main business machine that I work from. We use standalone and are not on a server at this time. So, I really need to get a fix here very soon. What is the best or most reliable memory to buy?

Hiyya taxman No you will just boot off the metest disk mate. It doesn't involve an OS.

Just make the bootable disk from Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool set the BIOS to boot from the optical drive and let it run. It does take some time and you need to run at least 7 passes or so - overnight perfect. What it does is just run through the test over and over but you should see some errors if there is any quite early on.

I just download the app to Downloads you can use where you like and then burn it to a CD or DVD. Power off power on > set the BIOS > stick the disk in > save the BIOS settings and > Enter it will run automatically.

Any steps you don't understand - ask - only dumb question is the one you don't ask:).

Okay here is the question. This is an HP 4530S ProBook. How do you get to the bios screen? Is this accomplished through hitting F1 when initially starting the machine? I have done this on some dell computers and IBM/Lenovo as well but I want to be sure on this one.

Sorry late reply mate been working. Yep power on and keep tapping F2 if that doesn't work try F10 DEL or even ESC, but F2 is usual.

If none of these work try an external keyboard it sometimes works (USB hook up one) on desktops the old PS/2 connectors are fabulous to use but that id a by the by:)
