Hi guys,

I am getting random blue screens in windows 7 pro 64 bit. The blue screen says the following message each time:

MEMORY_MANAGEMENT

Then it's STOP: 0x0000001A then 4 long number/letter strings.

It seems very random. It's multiple times per day but sometimes can take hours between each BSOD.

I have ran windows memory diagnostics many times with no errors. My HD also passed chkdsk when I ran it with both boxes checked (Auto fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors).

My computer parts:

1TB SATA-III 6.0Gb/s 32MB Cache 7200RPM HDD (Single Drive)
Intel(R) Core™ i7-2600K 3.40 GHz 8M Intel Smart Cache LGA1155
8GB (2GBx4) DDR3/1600MHz Dual Channel Memory (Corsair or Major Brand)
[CrossFireX] Asus P8Z68-V LX Intel Z68 Chipset DDR3 ATX Mainboard LucidLogix Virtu and Intel Smart Response Technology
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 2GB 16X PCIe Video Card [+86] (Major Brand Powered by NVIDIA)

Please let me know what additional information you need. I'm not a computer wiz at all and I apologize if I'm missing obvious information.

I'm very frustrated and I would just like to say thank you for your time and help in advance.

I have my latest 5 minidumps in my C: Windows / Minidump folder... but the folder is locked or read only and I am unable to zip / attach / view them. How can I get these attached for you smart people to check out (:

One last thing, I have reinstalled Windows 7 twice so I'm mostly on a fresh restart. I have already updated all of my drivers via windows update.

Thanks so much guys ^

Hi,

You can do two things:

1. Use this thread to help you to capture the relevant information so we can better diagnose the issue.
2. Run a more thorough memory diagnostic using MemTest86+ - use this guide to help you.

Regards,
Golden

Attached is my 'Grab All'

I went step by step using your Step 1 from above with the Grab all. (See attached)

Let me know if you need anything else.

I really thank you for your time and patience (I'm not exactly a computer wiz).

Side note: Every since these random blue screens have starting happening a couple months ago my internet doesn't auto connect when I restart the computer and also when I wake it up from sleeping. Not sure if this is relevant to anything (maybe the driver or something) but just throwing that out there.

It's the little USB Edimax 11n USB Wireless LAN connecting to Linksys wireless router.

Thanks.

A new BSOD; Getting better

Hey guys,

I was using my computer today and Nvidia randomly starting downloading a good sized driver update (even though I was caught up on windows updates).

I download it and restart my computer and it boots up like it used to AND connects to the internet automatically! Everything 'feels right' (no random restart on top of restart, having to choose normal mode and having to manually connect to Internet). I install Steam, install Binding of Isaac, play a full game (couldn't do that before)... begin to celebrate...

I restart the computer and get a brand new BSOD. I didn't catch it but where it used to always say 'Memory Management' it said something else. I have used grab it again and attached the new file.

The only thing I've done aside from installing the new Nvidia Drivers is left my RAM in slots 2 and 4 (instead of the default 1 and 3) on the Mobo (I was running memory test and I switched to see if I could get errors in other ones). It seems to be running better but still got the new BSOD (see attached).

Anything I need to try in the meantime?

2 NEW BSOD and question

So I got two new random BSOD (used to all be memory management). Last one was something POOL I believe.

Anyway, attached is the new information about them.

Is this the information you need btw or do I need to change any settings to get better error reporting?

Also, I have a 'bootable USB for MemTest 86+' now from the site. But... how do I boot from it? (I'm sure another fail on my basic knowledge).

Thank you ^

Yes, it is Bad Pool Header, Stop 0x19 BSOD. It is caused by a Pool Corruption; which is usually a memory pool. This corruption is mostly done dy drivers passing bad information to the memory, but sometimes failing physical memory can do it, too.

Do memtest as Golden Suggested. To boot from it, Either change the boot order in BIOS. Ste USB as the first boot device; or use the Boot Menu key to get the list of all boot devices. Select USB from the list.

If memtest comes free from errors, enable Driver Verifier to monitor the drivers.
Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable
Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.

   Information
Why Driver Verifier:
It puts a stress on the drivers, ans so it makes the unstable drivers crash. Hopefully the driver that crashes is recorded in the memory dump.

How Can we know that DV is enabled:
It will make the system bit of slow, laggy.

   Warning
Before enabling DV, make it sure that you have earlier System restore points made in your computer. You can check it easily by using CCleaner looking at Tools > System Restore.

If there is no points, make a System Restore Point manually before enabling DV.

   Tip

Let us know the results, with the subsequent crash dumps, if any. Post it following the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions.

Ran MemTest 86+ from USB Boot: Errors

Hi there,

Again, thank you for all of the help so far. I'm currently running Memtest 86+ from my USB boot.

It is 1 hours 51 minutes into the test, on Test #8 currently (I'm posting this from laptop). There have been 797,184 errors found so far. It is on test 8.

This is probably a silly question... but this means memory is bad and needs to be replaced, correct? Or is there more to test before I can be SURE it's the memory?

Also, would you guys recommend a certain brand / type of memory (please see computer specs above)? And do I install them in slots 1 and 3 (that is how cyberpowerpc sent it originally). I plan on buying from newegg but I want to make sure I get the right stuff.

Again, thank you for your time.

There are two possibilities:

1. You have one or more faulty RAM chips, or
2. You have faulty RAM slots on the motherboard.

You now need to do the following:

1. Unplug all RAM chips, except for one.
2. Run MemTest86+ again for a mimimum of 8 passes
3. If no errors are encountered, take the same RAM chip and insert it into the next RAM slot on the motherboard, and repeat step 2.
4. Repeat for all motherboard RAM slots.
5. If no errors are encountered it means that this RAM chip is OK, as are the motherboard slots.
6. Repeat step 2 for all RAM chips in one of the motherboard RAM slots, until you find the defective RAM chip.

Found bad RAM stick! Last question (:

So, I ran the test with the bad memory stick and sure enough I got tons of errors instantly in all 4 slots on the MoBo.

Put in the other stick of RAM and boom, perfect (: Looks like the problem was the memory stick.

If I want to replace it, should I buy the exact same kind?

I had 2 of the 4 GB Kingston HyperX DDR3 Genesis. Do I need to make sure to buy 4 GB of the exact same kind? Or should I just get better stuff and buy 2 new sticks. Also, with my system, would be make a difference to get a couple 8 GB or is that just total overkill (I know this doesn't fit the 'problem' part of this board, but I really do wanna 'fix it right' to prevent problem and quality matters to me).

Important Note: Thank you so much for helping me through this BSOD problem. I will close this thread as solved as soon as a couple days pass (never hurts to be careful). You guys are awesome and I appreciate it very much.

Errors/red lines means one or more RAM is faulty. But the fault may occur due to a faulty DIMM slot, too, which is a motherboard component. Using memtest86+, you can discriminate between a faulty RAM and a faulty motherboard.

How? Follow the Part- three: If you have errors part of How to Test and Diagnose RAM Issues with Memtest86+ . Say you have two RAM sticks and two DIMM slots. You obtained errors at the test with all RAM sticks installed. Now, remove all the sticks but one. Test it in all the available slots, one by one. Continue the same procedure for all the available sticks.
How to make the inference that is it a RAM issue or it is a motherboard issue? Suppose you have got the result like that:
test|Slot1|Slot2
RAM1| Error | Error
RAM2|Good|Good
It is a RAM, a bad RAM.

But if you have got a result like that:
test|Slot1|Slot2
RAM1| Error |Good
RAM2| Error |Good
It is a motherboard issue. The particular slot is bad.

If you want to buy new RAM, better it is to buy a new KIT. Make it sure that the particular RAM you are getting supports your motherboard, and that's all.

If you want to buy a single stick only, match the new one's FSB/MHz timing with the existing one. Otherwise it will yield the average RAM quantity only.

Thank you!

Arc and Golden,

You are both awesome, thanks so much. The computer is working and the faulty RAM has been removed.

The other Stick of RAM passed in all slots so all the DIMMs are good (: The other bad RAM failed in all slots.

I will order up some new RAM and everything seems good to go.

Again, I will close this thread in a couple days (assuming no BSOD) and again THANKS
