BSOD intermittently, sometimes in Chrome, and when not here.

I will get the BSOD erratically, usually when I have email open, using QuickBooks, and browsing.
Never seems to be the same time of day, but happens infrequently enough it's hard to remember. Happening more often lately.
Believe it happens overnight as well. I leave the computer running and log off Windows when I leave at night so the virus scan runs.
Some mornings when I log onto Windows it gives me a massage that there was an unexpected shut down and computer was restarted.

Let me know if more information is needed.
Thanks in advance

There are still many files missing unfortunately.

Please try following:
  • Open an admin command prompt
  • Copy/paste "sfc/scannow" (without quotes) and press enter
  • When it finished reboot your system
  • Open again an admin command prompt
  • Enter sfc/scannow again
If sfc/scannow does NOT say "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violation", please upload the cbs.log file located at {windows partition}\Windows\Logs\CBS\, if the file is too large try a 3rd party uploader like dropbox, onedrive, google drive, mediafire etc.
System File Check(SFC a.k.a. Windows Resource Protection) needs to have your system rebooted in order for sfc to try to fix the problems that it finds.

axe0,

I did the admin command prompt and sfc/scannow once, shut down the computer, restarted, and command prompt scan again.
After both scans had completed, it stated unable to repair some files.

Below is a link to the cbs.log file.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/opqdygegrknrisb/CBS.log?dl=0

Thanks

I appreciate the help to this point, but it has been since Monday since I've gotten anything back.
Am considering just upgrading to a new laptop. This thing was refurbished when I got it about 5 years ago but it's been a very good up till lately, and not getting the BSOD often enough to be more of an inconvenience.

It is a work laptop though, and those inconveniences cause delays when dealing with my customer's. And I would hate to get that final BSOD that it doesn't recover from.

If you get a chance to look over the information in the link, that would be great. If not, I appreciate the support you've given me.

Sorry for the delay, I didn't get notified.

There are a few files corrupted, they cannot be replaced with SFC as the source of SFC is also corrupted.
I will ask for some help with this, I am not too familiair with SFC in Windows 7.

That won't help, the corruption is not from that update.
I know the corruption from that update, I have experienced it.

The corruption from that update has .json as extension files, but you have executables and dll's (.exe and .dll).

I haven't heard back on this yet.

I do have my original Windows 7 disk. Would it be worth trying to do a system repair with it?

Thanks,

Yes, it certainly would be worth it.
It is unlikely that your Windows 7 disk would contain corruption/is corrupted.

With my workload today it might be a bit before I can get back with you.

I'll do a repair and then run the sfc/scannow a couple of times and see what it says.

appreciate the help.

There's two errors in the SFC scan that need attention - I don't think either are serious in themselves, but one may indicate more severe problems elsewhere...

Please download and save the CheckSUR tool from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821
(you'll need to look in the details for Windows 7, downloading from the Microsoft Download Center)

Run it - The tool can take anywhere from 5 mins to a couple of hours to run (or 'Install') depending on how much it has to do, and may exit silently - it may appear to freeze for most of that time, but be patient.
The result is logged in the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log file - and an archive …\checksur.persist.log file

Then zip the CheckSUR.log and upload it to your reply.

There's the summary from the CheckSUR log - not as bad as I was expecting (and it managed to fix the one from the SFC scan as well).

NoelDP,

That's good to hear. I appreciate all the time axe0 and you have put into this.

I don't know how these files became corrupted/damaged, or whatever the proper term is. Anything I should do in the way of preventative maintenance I should do?

Thanks,
Cork

This is what I would call corruption ;)
It could occur by a buggy update or malware, likely some other ways too but I wouldn't know them.

To prevent these problems, I always run sfc/scannow after a Windows Update has been installed.
