BSoD, not booting to safe mode
Hi all,

First timer, everything was spot on this year, until the dreaded BSoD.

Downloaded new Kaspersky - total security 2016, 2 days ago, started to bootup day after and......?
Unable to boot in- ' windows manager ' unable to launch - 'startup repair ' 'startup cannot repair this computer automatically '

Wireless mouse disables when I need to select option

So contacted them, they sent me the download link to there rescue disk.

Still unable to boot, but managed to save all my files, it looks like a clean install.
But don't have a clue, not very technical.

Can anyone assist please,

Tried changing my usb port, was using 3.0 now using 2.0 port for wireless mouse, it works, I am now able to boot from my installation disc, and select my option, I have selected, ' repair your computer '
Then receive - system recovery options - ' use recovery tools that can help fix problems starting windows.'
- I select my operating system on 'c ' drive and click load drivers ' - but it then asks me to- ' insert the installation media for the device'
Unsure of next move?

Hi ken2times,

Welcome to the 7forums :)

It would be appreciated if you could formulate your sentences more completely, this way I can understand you better :)

I have a question for you, do you see the OS driver in the boot options?
It sounds to me like your MBR (Master Boot Record) is damaged.
NOTE: MBR is a wild guess, but I mentioned it because it is frequently used, if you don't have MBR please let me know

Hi axe0,
Thanks for replying.

Yes I apologize for my poor sentencing, must improve.

Not very technical, this is what I see-

Advanced boot options-
Safe mode
Safe mode with networking
Safe mode with command prompt
Enable boot logging
Enable low resolution video
Last known good configuration
Directory services restore mode
Debugging mode
Disable automatic restart on system failure
Disable driver signature enforcement
Start windows normally

How do I find out if I have MBR?

Hi axe0,

Just run bootrec.exe/fixmbr

And bootrec.exe/fixboot

In command prompt, both say successfully completed.

What should I do next?

To find out about it you should at least get access to command prompt

- Last known good configuration
Have you tried this option?

Btw, what BSOD code do you get?
Please make a photo of it if you don't know, it would help troubleshooting.

Tried,

Last known good configuration -- this goes straight to BSoD, it only flashes on for half a second, then off again, too quick to note the error code?

Going back to this question
do you see the OS drive in the boot options?
When you boot into your BIOS or boot options, do you see the driver that contains your OS?

Hi axe0,

Sorry it has taken me so long to reply, after I finished work yesterday and got home ( around 6:30 ) I had to leave the house again.

So just got to run - chkdsk via command prompt, I checked for errors on all three HDDs.
The results, all say ' no problems found '

I have not run HD tune yet, not sure how to access them?

I have noticed, if I boot from Kaspersky rescue disc, only drives ' c ' & ' d ' are recognised, but when I run command prompt, all three HDDs where there.

No worries about HDTune, I forgot about the boot problem when I posted it, you don't have to run HDTune.
