Solved BSOD occasionally when browsing, sometimes on startup

I'm getting a BSOD when browsing (IE9) mainly if on flash sites, but sometimes standard websites. Occasionally it will also crash when the Windows 7 logon screen comes up and reboots itself. Never crashes if left on for long periods and not using (I use it to stream media via DLNA).

Any help greatly appreciated. Zip file attached. Using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.

Uninstall Avast using Avast Uninstall Utility. Use Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus with windows inbuilt firewall, and free MBAM as the on demand scanner.
Download, install and update those, and then run full system scans with both of them, one by one.

Thanks. I used to use AVG but thought it might be the problem so went for Avast instead. I'll give Windows Security a try in that case. Is that the same error that's coming up in all the dump files?

I have checked the latest ones only. And, as it is the concurrent issue, you mist to fix it at first, and then, if the problem persists, we will search for more causes, for sure.

I uninstalled Avast and installed Windows Essentials. Interestingly when it did a full scan it found some threats Avast didn't. I can now seem to browse sites with no BSOD however on the first reboot it BSOD'd on the login screen immediately and rebooted itself. This has not happened since so I'm hoping it was a one off relating to the removal of Avast. Early days so I will keep you posted.

Your crash dumps are not showing any finite probable cause. In such a situation, it is better to enable Driver Verifier to monitor the drivers.
Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable
Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.

   Information

Why Driver Verifier:
It puts a stress on the drivers, ans so it makes the unstable drivers crash. Hopefully the driver that crashes is recorded in the memory dump.

How Can we know that DV is enabled:
It will make the system bit of slow, laggy.

   Warning

Before enabling DV, make it sure that you have earlier System restore points made in your computer. You can check it easily by using CCleaner looking at Tools > System Restore.

If there is no points, make a System Restore Point manually before enabling DV.

   Tip

• If you fail to get on the Desktop because of DV, Boot into Advanced Boot Options > Safe mode. Disable DV there. Now boot normally again, and try following the instruction of enabling DV again.
• If you cannot boot in Safe mode too, do a System Restore to a point you made earlier.

Let us know the results, with the subsequent crash dumps, if any.

I ran it for the last two days and typically got no crashes Any other suggestions? Should I keep it running for longer?

No, not at all. You have done enough with it.

Disable verifier. Use the computer normally. If it crashes again, let us see.

Will do, thanks. I've just updated Adobe Flash, Shockwave, Air, Java and my video drivers to the latest versions as a matter of routine. Who knows maybe they'll work! Fingers crossed. If you don't hear from me again, thanks for all your help

They didn't work, just got a crash again whilst using IE9 going back to a Google search. All dump files attached again (including latest). Any other suggestions please? Thanks

As usual, the crash dump provides no information. You do two more checks.

Scan the system for possible virus infection.

• Anti-rootkit utility TDSSKiller
• Windows Defender Offline

Test your RAM modules for possible errors.
How to Test and Diagnose RAM Issues with Memtest86+
Run memtest for at least 8 passes, preferably overnight.

I think you've found the problem - see attached screen pic! It doesn't mean much to me though. How do I make sense of the errors?

It indicates that the RAM is corrupted. Now the question is which stick is corrupt.

Follow Part 3: If You Have Errors: of the guide How to Test and Diagnose RAM Issues with Memtest86+, it will help you to identify the corrupted RAM module. Then change/replace it.

Otherwise you may get a complete new RAM kit.

Let us know the results with the replacement RAM.

It's taken months but finally think I've found the dodgy RAM stick. No blue screens for a couple of weeks so fingers crossed! Thank you so much for your help
