Hi. I'm getting BSODs with KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR frequently on a Dell XPS L702x Win 7 x64 Home Premium SP1 system that's been freshly formatted and the Windows re-installed. I've run the memory diagnostics and they find no errors. The chkdsk /f /r frequently finds errors and tries to fix them after each crash.

I've used the SF Diagnostics to generate the necessary information and attached the Zip file. Please help. I'm ready to trash the whole computer. Your help is much appreciated.

Is the Dell diagnostics partition still on the hard drive? If it is run the Dell hardware diagnostics. F12 at power on will access a sub menu and one will be the diagnostics.

Also, I see a lot of Microsoft drivers in that report. Although Windows will install many drivers, the best ones are the Dell provided drivers. If you haven't done it, install all the available Dell drivers and see what that does, although with the hard drive errors, that may just be a defective hard drive.

Hi fireberd. I've unfortunately blown away the Dell diagnostics partition. And the drivers are all the ones I could find on the Dell site; there was no resource DVD with the computer, so I downloaded all of them from Dell.

How can I verify that the HD is on its last leg? Thanks.

The drive manufacturers usually have diagnostics available. Check the vendor for yours.

Dell also has some on-line diagnostics, check them out.

Hi AlexC95,

Welcome to Seven forums.

Please let us know if you have performed a clean install. Check this tutorial for performing a clean install on the system:

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1649-clean-install-windows-7-a.html

Please check this link below for performing the diagnostics on the system:

http://dell.to/18xQpRy

Also you can run online diagnostics if you can still boot the system:

Check for infection by installing Malwarebytes, update, run a Full Scan - in Safe Mode with Networking if necessary.

Please remove any other antivirus or firewall installed on the system and ensure you have Microsoft Security Essentials with the Windows 7 Firewall for best performance.

Keep us posted with the results so we can advise you further.

Thanks, Sandeep. Does it look like an infection? I ran the Malwarebytes and it didn't find anything. I'm ready to buy a new HD for the computer. Someone said it could be the memory.

Hi AlexC95,

Yes it could be an virus infection issue as I read some of the posts online indicating it. Have you performed the hardware diagnostics on the system as advised in the link below.

Kindly do not go ahead and purchase a replacement hardware untill and unless it is confirmed a hardware failure on the system.

Keep us posted with the results so we can advise you further.

Thanks, Sandeep. I recently bought an external HD and let other people use it. Could an infection be on that? How do I check that for infections?

I tried running the Dell online diagnostics when the system did a BSOD. One weird thing lately is that the BSODs freeze and don't auto shutdown the computer.

I just ran the Dell online diagnostics and they failed on the hard drive SMART Short Self Test. It then recommended I buy a new HD: "Your hard drive is operating outside of normal parameters and should be replaced."
