Hello all,

My Windows 7 (64-bit) computer ends with a BSOD on shutdown, meaning that it does not shutdown completely and have to kill it by holding the power button.

The computer is only used for video editing.

I have completed the SF Diagnostic Tool instructions and attached the zip file to this post.

If any further information is required please let me know.

Any help is very much appreciated!

Many thanks

The zip you uploaded does not contain any crash dump.

Follow it: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/174459-dump-files-configure-windows-create-bsod.html
Go to Option Two, Point 2. Download the .reg file and merge it in registry by double clicking it.

Now wait for another BSOD. When it occurred, search the .dmp files manually in the default path: C:\Windows\Minidump or %SystemRoot%\Minidump. See if the crash dump is recorded or not (hopefully it will be recorded).Post it following the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions.

Form the other data, it appears that it is somehow a storage/controller related issue. You have 10 HDDs (3 internal and the rest are USB) installed, and a Marvell RAID Console. RAID is problematic. Specially Marvell is not a good controller. If RAID is not any essential for you, I would suggest you to disable RAID in BIOS and then uninstall Marvell controller.

But it might be th otherwise. So you may try to update GIGABYTE GBB36X Controller and Marvell 91xx SATA 6G Controller from GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 1366 - GA-X58A-UD3R (rev. 2.0)

Also update NEC USB 3.0 Driver from the same source.

Let us know the results.

Thank you x BlueRobot and Arc. I have followed the instructions for setting up a crashdump/minidump, and re-creating the BSOD is simple enough (just need to shutdown the computer, as it does it every time). However the minidump folder remains empty (I am assuming because it occurs at the final stage of shutdown).

I will follow Arc's recommended updates and report back -storage/controller related does sound quite possible.

Really appreciate the help!

Okay thanks, and could you post a screenshot of the settings for configuring a dump file?

Thanks again for the help with this, and apologies for the delay in my response but I have been away. I have now returned and done the driver updates but still experiencing the BSOD on shutdown meaning that it cannot shutdown correctly. For some reason the minidump is not working either so what I have done is photographed the BSOD and attached.

Thanks again for any help or advice!

My earlier suggestion to you .........

From the screenshot, it seems that I was right.

Now it is certain that the BSOD is caused by Marvell 91xx SATA 6G Controller.

Disable RAID in BIOS.
How to Disable RAID: 5 Steps - wikiHow

Uninstall Marvell controllers in Control Panel > Programs and Features. Then follow Drivers - Clean Left over Files after Uninstalling to get rid of any leftover.

Update GIGABYTE GBB36X Controller from GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 1366 - GA-X58A-UD3R (rev. 2.0) .

Let us know the results.

Thank you Arc! Although I was unable to find any means of simply disabling the RAID in BIOS I did however uninstall the Marvell controllers and also used the DriverSweeper to ensure all traces were removed.

I then did a restart and then attempted a shutdown... and no BSOD! So thank you.

My final question is that since it seems fine is it necessary to do an update? I could not find the specific "GIGABYTE GBB36X Controller" from that link anyway to be able to do it?

Many thanks!

It is the "GIGABYTE SATA2 Driver" but that is not a big update from your installed version.
Till there is no problem, let it on pending.

And, let us know the situation after a few days, if there is no problem in between.
