Is Windows 7 . . .
- x86 (32-bit) or x64 ? 64
- the original installed OS on the system? Yes. Built & Installed Win7 Myself
- an OEM or full retail version? That's tricky. I bought it here from newegg. Says OEM though.
- OEM = came pre-installed on system
- Full Retail = you purchased it from retailer
- What is the age of system (hardware)? Everything but the case and graphics card is <4 months old. The Card is from around July and the case is a few years old but irrelevant to my problems.
- What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?) Reinstalled it Tuesday this week (1/11)
Here is the problem:
During any game (Blur, LFD2, Assassin's Creed II, WoW, and even Minecraft) this new system can and will blue screen at least once a day. The Blue screen notes are a handful of things but I've narrowed it down to a few errors in the event viewer (see attached). Windows has not found resolutions but blames it on hardware.
Here are the extents of my troubleshooting methods:
Setting Ram to anything from 1.50 to 1.58 (They're rated at 1.50 but tried higher just in case)
I am not overclocking anything.
I've tried running
I had the same graphics card (ATi 5830) in my XP setup and never crashed during games. I've also tried a new graphics card (EVGA gtx 470) and still get the same errors.
For a while, posted in the event viewer were file size problems for Readyboost/Readyboot. I troubleshot that by increasing the size limit for Readyboost in regedit (still crashed) and then turning off Superfetch (8GB of ram...) but the BSODS persisted.
I upgraded my PSU from a 650W corsair to a 800w corsair.
I tried using one memory stick or the other.
I unplugged my printer - didn't crash for a day. Crashed next day, same error.
I unplugged my USB Mic & 2.1 Speakers - didn't crash for 2 days, crashed next day, same error.
I get the same crashes if I only have my main 300GB Raptor hooked up (disconnecting External 2TB MyBook and removing internal 1TB Caviar Green).
I'll run only the game, nothing else. Still crashes even though I desperately need to be able to run Ventrilo or Mumble while the game is going.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled the ATi drivers at least 15 times, using DriverCleaner in between the remove/readd.
I flashed and updated to the latest bios from Windows.
I flashed and updated to the latest bios from a formatted USB Thumbdrive.
I reinstalled windows from a completely clean reformat on Tuesday 1/11. I only installed WoW, Mumble, Graphics drivers, Winamp, Google Chrome, Last.fm, Avira, CCCP and Google Talk. Worked fine until crashes last night and today. Also installed utorrent but I don't run it while I play games.
I'm really upset because I don't want to shell out another $700-1000 for a rebuild and these parts are out of the return limit on Newegg. The error messages scream software/bios setting but I can't seem to find out what to do.
