BSOD Persisting for 3 months (Have Fresh Dump File)

I looked at your three most recent dumps. Two blamed Windows' Direct X driver and one blamed a Windows USB audio driver. None of these are likely to be the real cause. All three dumps indicate memory corruption. I do find a very out of date driver loaded on on your system. It is an XP driver. Uninstall the utility this driver is associated with. It is obsolete and is known cause of problems with Win 7. Reboot and see how your system runs.

SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000007e)
This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints
the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address
as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
Some common problems are exception code 0x80000003. This means a hard
coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but this system was booted
/NODEBUG. This is not supposed to happen as developers should never have
hardcoded breakpoints in retail code, but ...
If this happens, make sure a debugger gets connected, and the
system is booted /DEBUG. This will let us see why this breakpoint is
happening.

That's EVGA Precision. I'll give uninstalling it a shot but I'm 100% positive that's not causing it.

Any other ideas?

Thanks for the help as always, Carl

It is a known problem with Win 7. That is an XP driver and it is not going to work well with Win 7. Win 7 is not an evolution from XP; it is a new OS. If you do not want to uninstall EVGA Precision, rename the driver from .sys to ._old. Don't forget the underscore. Reboot and the driver will not load. Precision will not run either. Once you get your system stable, you can try renaming it back to .sys and see what happens. I do not know if it is the cause of your problems; but I know for certain it is not contributing to the stability of your system. That driver is a known cause of problems.

No offense but I really have my doubts since I had the problem before that was installed. It would be nice if it solved my problem but I'm still looking for other ideas/options and/or troubleshooting methods.

I understand and I am not offended at all. Most times troubleshooting is process of elimination making some educated guesses as to where to start. One tries to eliminate all known potential causes. Have you tried to update that driver from RivaTuner? The driver you have is not even a Vista driver.

I don't want to be the guy that argues for the sake of arguing when he's looking for help, biting the hand that feeds, etc. :P

It's not RivaTuner, it's EVGA Precision. I updated it straight from here.

My point is that I'm trying to find the root problem. If EVGA Precision is making the problem worse, it's still not the root problem. I had the problem without EVGA Precision installed.

I was speaking with a colleague (I work at a helpdesk for law firms) and he said it might just be an issue with 64 bit Windows 7 and gaming. Could this be true? Another colleague says he's using 7 64 bit and has the same random crashes - has done the same level of troubleshooting & replacing parts.

These people seem to have the same/similar issues:

Anything is possible; however, there are a lot of gamers that run Win 7 64 bit.

My point is that I'm trying to find the root problem. If EVGA Precision is making the problem worse, it's still not the root problem. I had the problem without EVGA Precision installed.
Without being in front of your computer - and maybe not even then - I don't know any other way to solve a problem when dumps do not give a direct cause other than the process of elimination. I would be doing the same on my computer.

Just Crashed:

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000003b (0x00000000c0000005, 0xfffff8800432950a, 0xfffff8800973ac40, 0x0000000000000000). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 012711-15062-01.

Also, EVGA pushed out an update for Precision the other day so I applied that.

I also tried something noted over on their forums. Obviously I still crashed but they had some good ideas.

Persistent BSOD during gaming only. P55 SLI, core i5, 8GB ram.

attached is my new dump report

Hi Kellar; I am sorry you are still having problems.
The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000003b (0x00000000c0000005, 0xfffff8800432950a, 0xfffff8800973ac40, 0x0000000000000000). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 012711-15062-01
Note the error code in bold. That means memory corruption or conflict. Whenever we see Bugcheck 3B, SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION, and the dump blames dxgmms1.sys, Windows system Direct X driver, and shows memory corruption, we begin to look for driver conflicts to included 3rd party antivirus and firewall programs. In your case, 3rd party antivirus and firewalls are eliminated as a cause. That leaves drivers and hardware.

You have obvious drivers conflicts. RTCore64.sys, dated Wed May 25 02:39:12 2005 is a known cause of BSOD's on Win 7 systems. It is an XP driver. Hardware and software designed for XP are not going to run on Win 7 (except in the XP mode) unless the manufacture has updated them to do so. Bottom line - as long as you have an obsolete RTCore64.sys driver loading on your system, you can expect BSOD's. The solution is to uninstall the software it is associated with or rename the driver. Renaming the driver will break the program it is associated with. Win 7 is a totally new operating system; it is not an evolution from XP. It is different even from Vista. XP stuff is not going run on a Win 7 system. I did read through thread you linked and I thank you for that link.

You still have another obsolete driver loaded on your system. It has the potential to cause memory corruption and instability. Whether it contributed to the crash or not, I do not know. But I can say it is not helping your system's stability.

Alright I renamed RTCore64.sys to .old and updated the firmware & SmartWare for my WD Book from here.

I'll post my results - if wdcsam64.sys was not updated or still says it's out of date then it is irrelevant to the system and I can disable/remove it as well.

What do you suggest to use to manage fan speed & monitor GPU temp? You said RivaTuner/EVGA Precision/MSI Afterburner were all known issues w/Windows 7 but those are the three that everywhere I look suggests.

Also applied the most recent update for my gtx470 from here.

Dean is correct. The wdcsam64.sys driver is still there. RTCore64.sys is gone. For the time being, just rename wdcsam64.sys to .old, reboot and see what happens. If you get another BSOD, upload it, and enable Driver Verifier carefully following the instructions in this tutorial: Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable. Driver Verifier will trigger BSOD's when it finds a faulty Driver. Upload any and all Verifier enabled dumps.

To answer your question about a replacement for Precision, back in post #6, Zen recommended MSI Afterburner. He says it is newer software. I think it is worth trying.

Couldn't rename the files for some reason. Even tried takeown in command prompt. I ended up zipping them and then deleting the original files - keeping a txt of what file goes where.

Enabled Driver Verifier - just one question: I'm *not* supposed to "Add currently not loaded driver(s) to the list" correct?

There weren't many non-Microsoft drivers so I just wanted to be sure.

Will post with results.

Attached dump report from this morning.

I'm assuming the SES device driver problem in the perfmon would be from renaming the files listed above?

Also, I'm trying out Afterburner. Hopefully it isn't reported as out of date :P

Crashed again, here's another report. Different results seem to be in perfmon.
