BSOD (sort of)

Hello experts,

I am new to this forum, and having some freezing problems with my laptop. I bought it just over a month ago, and I have been having freezes ever since I bought it (if I remember it correctly I had a freeze even before installing any programs or removing any bloatware). I am not sure if I should call it a BSOD, since I really don't get either a blue or black screen. The computer just totally freezes. I can still se the screen, but it is locked and no input att all has any effect. Sometimes it has frozen when some type of sound is running in the background, then the last sound to be played out seems to be looped or something, but very very short loop which makes it sound like a constant noise.

As it seems like it's no regular crash, I do not get any memory dump from it either, so I have not been able to analyze it for any additional info. The freezes seems to occur almost in total randomness, sometimes I can go a day or two without freezes, and then I get three freezes in three hours.

I would prefer to be able to fix the problem myself even though I have warranty since I am not in the country of purchase at the moment and will probably not be for a couple of months.

Running driver verifier at he moment according to found instructions, will see if anything different happens with it.

It's a ASUS U41JF with core i5 CPU running on Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

Please ask if you need more information on the system. I have also updated to SP1 with no improvement, and also updated the graphics driver.

The files will give us a clue why your system is freezing.

I've uploaded the requested file. The minidump file seems to have no connection to the crashes however, since that is the latest dump file available and crashes has been occurring around twice a day since then without generating ant new dump file.

I've run the windows 7 built in memory test MdSched.exe without it finding any error. Will try to run memtest also.

Still can't find anything particurlarly wrong, and the freezes are starting to drive me crazy, especially since it takes about 4 mins to start the computer after a freeze (seems very long for a new laptop with not much stuff installed after the purchase, and with the given specs).

I hope this gives some more information to anyone who can help me.

Hmmm, it seems that I was running the wrong app when generating the data, I used another one I found on the forum (with a GUI) and thought it was the same one. Here should be a correct one. I also noticed the error with the nvidia sound driver which seems to be the one coming from the mini dump. However, then it seems reasonable that I would get a new mini dump with the same errors on every crash. However, none of the crashes seems to generate any memory dump at all. I've tried to enable driver verifier. Had it running for about a day or two with it, didn't notice any increased number of crashing, and with it running I still did not get any memory dump when crashing.

Could there be some clue in it not generating a memory dump file? Or that I don't get a real blue screen, I only get att total lockup of the system (I see on the screen the same thing as just before the crash, I just can't do anything at all, not even move the mouse, like it's stuck in time)?

Should I test anything else when having driver verifier running?

The only thing that I noticed in your report that could be causing your system to freeze up deals with Google Update. I also saw network errors. Try updating your Atheros driver

Please uninstall Poker Stars. It looks as if it is crashing a lot in your app event logs.

I don't show your computer blue screening besides the one time back in March. After you enable driver verifier use your computer how you normally would. If after 48 hours you don't receive a blue screen then you can disable it

I managed to update the Atheros driver (allthough it didn't let me at first since it claimed it already had the latest driver) and uninstall Pokerstars.

But I suspect something strange is going on with the Google software. It seems as if the computer came preinstalled with Google Chrome, and it wont let me uninstall it. I've tried to uninstall it from the control panel, and I've also tried looking into the folder structure of it. If I look in the Google folder inside applications I find four subfolters: Chrome, Common, CrashReports and Update. Inside most of them are more folders, with some executables, chrome.exe, GoogleUpdate.exe, setup.exe among others. I've tried running all of them, but nothing happens for any of them. And I don't feel comfortable in just deleting the Google folder either.

Try using Revo Uninstaller - Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download - Uninstall software, remove programs, solve uninstall problems
