BSOD STOP 0x00000124; No particular occasion

Hey all,

I've been looking around for a while but I have yet to find any solution that has worked. Thus far, I have followed all steps outlined in the thread here (excluding removing hardware and reinstallation of Windows 7):

1) I have nothing overclocked whenever the BSODs happen
2) I have monitored all the system thermometers and they are all sub 40 celcius
3) Drivers have all been updated
4) BIOS is also updated
6) I have tested my hard drives using CHKDSK /R as well as tested the RAM using both MDSCHED and memtest86 with no errors overnight.

Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

As another test, can you uninstall ASUS AI Suite?

Hey there,

I have uninstalled Asus AI Suite and it hasn't changed much. I have noticed less BSODs but I've still had a few in recent times.

As soon as my exams are done I will post up some screenshots in terms of the Memtest86.

Prime95: Overnight with no errors
FurMark: Stopped when temperature leveled out, nothing crazy and no artifacts, .csv file uploaded
Memtest86: No errors and pic is attached

Hey Arc,

Started with the Prime95 test and I got another x124 BSOD. Attached are the results.txt from prime95 and the BSOD error (correctly ) posted.

I'm currently doing the Furmark test and later on the memtestx86 while I'm at work.

Edit: Uploaded the FurMark log after the temperature leveled out

Edit 2: Uploaded the newest memtest86 after 12 hours and 6 passes (I know, I know, it says 8, but I feel like 6 is good enough)

Sorry mate, was busy with some other things for last few days.

When it yields a stop 0x124 BSOD during prime95, the notion goes to three things.

1. the CPU itself
2. system /cpu temperature
3. overclocking

Is the computer hot? Report us the heat of the computer after a couple of hours of your normal usage. Upload a screenshot of the summery tab of Speccy. Alternatively, you can publish a Speccy snapshot too: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/311593-speccy-publish-snapshot-your-system-specs.html .

Are you overclocking? As you are getting BSODs, you should stop overclocking and run all the hardware components like CPU, GPU and RAM to their default settings. Also set the BIOS to default, too.
How To Clear CMOS (Reset BIOS)

When these two are done and the results are satisfactory, go for another prime95 test. If it still crashes, then we may blame the CPU.

Hey no worries Arc, I'm just happy I have some help

My temps aren't super high. CPU fluctuates between 35 and 40 after a few hours of programming in matlab mixed with gaming, motherboard has never really been above 32.

I haven't ever overclocked, however I reset my BIOS to defaults anyway just to be sure.


That being said I had to stop the prime95 test because the temperatures spiked to 88 and held a constant 80 to 88. I checked my CPU fan and it was reporting 2000rpm, and was visibly spinning (aftermarket coolermaster fan). Upon stopping the prime95 test the temperatures immediately dropped to 30. Ambient temperature is 20.

Should I try not doing small FFT? and instead large FFT to prevent the high heat?

The temps are pretty much under control ... but still it goes too high with prime95 test. Which gives an impression that the CPU is somehow not being able to manage a load properly. But I would request essenbe at first to have a look before you proceed any further. He is offline now .... I hope he will take a look when he will be back online again.

tmay, what CPU cooler are you using? Your CPU runs extremely hot under normal conditions. If you are using the stock Intel cooler, I doubt it is up to the job. Unless you are having ram or heat problems, you should never have an 0X124 under prime at default settings. You should never have them during normal use. But, I am sure you know that. Also, I always use the Blend test, but I'm not sure I would recommend that if you are having the BSODs already. The blend test is known also as the "torture test'.

Also, see if you can download this and run it to get rid of most of the AI Suite. It is extremely hard to get rid of. AI Suite II uninstall cleaner
