BSOD - unmountable boot volume error

Hello, i've been stuck on a startup issue for a few hours and cant find a solution after researching my problem online.

I was in the process of patching my League of Legends client when I clicked on an image on the patch notes, which froze all of my windows and windows explorer. ctrl+alt+del didn't respond and neither did the task manager shortcut. I was only able to move my mouse and alt tab between the windows, this kept up for about 15 minutes so I decided to forcibly shut down my computer, only to get a BSOD with the error Unmountable_boot_volume.

I tried going into System recovery options where it asks to select a operating system to repair, except my OS was not listed in the box. I was still able to get into system recovery options with this at the top :

'Operating system: Unknown on (Unknown) Local Disk'

Tried startup repair and it could not repair automatically, the repair diagnostics report ended with Root cause found: MBR is corrupt. Repair action: Disk metadata repair, error code 0x17

System restore and image recovery did not work either as my OS was not specified.

Acer eRecovery management did not work either as all the options were greyed out.

I have tried using the chkdsk in cmd prompt but it 'cannot open volume for direct access'

Entered diskpart in cmd to list volume and list disk :

Volume ### Ltr Label Fs Type Size Status Info

Volume 0 F DVD-ROM 0B No Media
Volume 1 G Removable 0B No Media
Volume 2 H Removable 0B No Media
Volume 3 I Removable 0B No Media
Volume 4 J Removable 0B No Media
Volume 5 K Removable 0B No Media

Disk ### Status Size Free Dyn Gpt

Disk 1 No Media 0 B 0 B
Disk 2 No Media 0 B 0 B
Disk 3 No Media 0 B 0 B
Disk 4 No Media 0 B 0 B
Disk 5 No Media 0 B 0 B

Lastly I tried entering C: bootrec /fixmbr and bootrec /fixboot, which returned :

'A device attached to the system is not functioning.'

I'm stumped on how to proceed from here as most of the advice i've looked at has not worked for me. Will I need to do a reinstall of the OS or is it my HDD that needs to replaced? If possible I want to retrieve the data that's on my hard drive.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Joe1432,

To get access to your data, first priority in case we cannot get this problem solved :ar: Windows 10 Recovery Tools - Bootable Rescue Disk - Windows 10 Forums, a Win10PE with preinstalled software that many could use to try to recover the OS.

Entered diskpart in cmd to list volume and list disk
Could you make a photo of the cmd and post the photo please, that would make a few things more clear :)

This basically means that the disk cannot be found by Windows, is the disk detected in the BIOS?

Alright, using the Win10PE, use Macrium to try to fix boot problems.

I'm afraid there is nothing to do unfortunately, you may be able to reinstall Windows.
