BSOD upon sleep/hibernate for laptop

Every time I close my laptop lid (or manually try to enter Sleep or Hibernate mode) my laptop won't re-awaken. When I cycle the power, it tells me that it recovered from an error, details mention a BSOD, so here I am. It's been working fine for months, problem started about two weeks ago, but I can't think of any reason why that would be the case.

Laptop is a HP TouchSmart tm2t
-x64
-original was Windows 7 Home, my brother upgraded it for me to Ultimate
-full retail, I believe
-Laptop is about 6 months old
-OS was installed just after I got it

Please remove any CD virtualization programs such as Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120%. They use a driver, found in your dmp, sptd.sys, that is notorious for causing BSODs. Use this SPTD uninstaller when you're done: DuplexSecure - Downloads
You can use MagicDisc as an alternative.

Well, it went from bad to worse after I installed the most recent Windows Updates (as I was getting ready to follow your instructions). Now I guess something's wrong with the display driver, because it boots up to just a black screen now, and now whenever I try to reset or shut down from Safe Mode it just hangs at that Shutting Down screen eternally.

So, I think it's time to call it a day. I've backed up important files to a USB drive and am going to just format and re-install Windows from scratch sometime tomorrow. Case closed, I guess?
