I am not a tech pro, I didn't realize about the Intel chipset but yes that's right, this board does have the Intel chipset.. And as easy as it was, it didn't occur to me to look in the device manager to find my version. I see it now, mine is outdated.

I checked the latest updates from both Intel & Gigabyte's site and they both have different version numbers. I went with the Gigabyte version because on the Readme sheet it says its for 4th gen Core; the other one from Intel only says 2nd gen Core i7. The Haswell CPU is 4th gen. It installed successfully so I will see if it crashes.

It is the latest 350.12 WHQL display driver. I havent tried it myself yet, but not so many members report for it. Your issue is the second one most probably.

An improper update to the display driver can rightly cause the stop 0x3B issue. So if teh update is done by GeForce Experience, we need to take some actions there.

Uninstall the installed display driver using Display Driver Uninstaller. Then download 350.12 WHQL and install it as follows:

Download 314.22 WHQL. While installing, Select Custom (Advanced) install. In the next page, follow this settings:

That means, you ire installing two things only, the display driver and PhysX.

One more thing. Free up the startup. Windows does not need any other program to auto start with it, but the auto start programs often conflicts and causes various problems including BSODs.

1. Click on the Start button
2. Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
3. Select the “Startup” tab.
4. Deselect all items other than the antivirus. You may keep Rainmemter too, that is harmless.
5. Apply > OK
6. Accept then restart.

Well I did that with no issues, but I got another two BSODs. Here's the log collected details. It seems that its a different thing each time.

Now it is the time to take it seriously. There should not be random failing drivers after every few days. Do memtest86+ test as suggested earlier. Before closing the program after 8 passes, take a camera snap of the memtest86+ screen and let us see it.

We need to be confirmed what the memtest86+ says.

Boot into the BIOS and disable XMP. See how it works. Let us know.

I just checked the bios and extreme memory profile was already set to "disable".

If it is not XMP enabled, then why memtest86+ shows it as XMP? And should not it be 1333 MHz without XMP enabled?

The BIOS does show it as 1333mhz. There is only 1 option under xmp called profile1 but the manual is rather vague about what profile1 settings are or how to change them. But it was set as you see. This was the default mode since I built it.

Hello, Brucex64. If you don't already have it, please download and install CPUz CPU-Z | Softwares | CPUID . Open it and post screenshots of the CPU tab, Mainboard tab, Memory tab And the SPD tab. On the SPD tab, you can select each dim slot from a drop down in the upper left of the screen. Just post screenshots of the Dimm Slots that are populated with ram.

Just so you know, the Memtest86+ screenshot shows your ram running at 1333 MHz. It is reading the ram as Kingston 1600MHZ and is just telling you it has an XMP profile, which is disabled in your BIOS. The way you have it running now should be no problem at all. Most boards, by default start the ram at 1333 with timings of 9-9-9-24. That is the default and any ram will usually run on any board with that profile. So, it does not look to be a problem. But, by enabling XMP your ram will run at the XMP profile of 1600MHz instead of 1333 MHz.

I would like to confirm what I just said above with the CPUz screenshots.

Another thing I was wondering about is the power supply. When I was spec'ing the board I read something about these Haswell CPUs where they have a low power state that requires a specific minimum amp current on one of the rails (12v I think) and if it does not have it then it might be unstable in sleep mode which is a low power state. I can't find the actual article now but I wonder if that makes it give me BSODs. Its not an issue of the power supply having enough total wattage but rather a specific amount of power for when the CPU goes into the low power state. I don't know....

Your ram is fine. The Memory tab shows what it is running at right now. If you look at the SPD tab, and JEDC #4 it shows that. The JEDC are the different settings the ram will run fine at. So, yours is running at a good setting. If you were to enable XMP in your bios, your Memory tab would look just like the XMP- 1600 on the SPD settings. Basically, the memory tab shows what the memory is running at right now. The SPD tab gives listings of the different settings it can run at, if set that way in BIOS.

What PSU manufacturer and Model do you have? Almost any of the quality PSU manufacturers will run Haswell just fine. It is only the very old or very cheap PSUs that have problems.

It looks like you are running one stick of ram. You are running in single channel mode. If you had 2 sticks in the slots recommended in your Motherboard Manual, you would be running in dual channel mode. But, it is always better to buy ram in kits. A kit is tested to run all the sticks together. Individual sticks are not. Even the same model from the same manufacturer. It will work sometimes, but may not.

As for my Power Supply, it came with the case so I think it is a Rosewill. 2014 build. The label shows the output as 24a (+3.3v), 24a (+5v), both 150 watts. 37a / 444w (+12v); .5a/6w (-12v); 3a/15w (+5vsb).

2 sticks of RAM might be tough because of the available space in the case & clearance to the rear of the hard drive. If I had a 2nd solid state drive it might work because they're shorter. But I think the system should be able to be stable with 1 stick?.

Sure, the system will be perfectly stable with one stick. You would just get a little better performance in multi threaded applications in Dual Channel mode. But, there is no problem with stability with just one stick. I am not familiar with the quality of Rosewill Power supplies. But you have 444W and your card requires 350W (for the whole system) which makes you at about 80% of max, assuming it will put that much out. They may be OK. But I always recommend Seasonic, Corsair, EVGA, XFX or Antec Power supplies. They are high quality and will put out exactly what they say and have built in features for over voltage protection. Rosewill may be fine, I just don't know about them.
