Solved BSOD-web browsing, downloading Adobe reader+Javascript update

I am hitting myself in the head for removing the infections from the Windows Defender. The scan isolated and prevented the infections from running, but I removed them in addition without thinking. DANG

SAFE MODE with networking is WORKING and I have updated definitions and now scanning, now BDOS within 3 minutes of the scan, which is a record and looks promising. Thank you again, Everlong, it seems to be working.

No problem Layback bear. After the scan I will notify you of the results and anything that is found. Should I follow with CCleaner and REVO? I think those are my only options after the scan.

As far as a clean install, as much as I don't want to think about it, I am looking for my product key and the ISO. I bought Win7Pro online 2 years ago and not sure how to do that reinstall without a disc. But lets not think about that now.

On my usb shopping trip I was also looking at external hard drives too. I found two portables; a Toshiba and a WD, both 1TB and 2.0 and 3.0 capable. One has a shock mechanism and the other one looks prettier. I don't know if I should invest in one right now. If you had any advice or suggestions, I'm open.

Lets hold off on that now. You can always buy later. Lets get rid of the infection or a least find out what it is so we have direction on the next move. Once the infection is gone we will have several choices that can be taken. Job 1 remove infection.
Job 2 make a note of what the infection is and let us know.

So...

Windows Defender booted and ran.... clean
Microsoft Security Essentials run.... clean
Malwarebytes run.... clean

So it APPEARS that my machine is clean and free of infection with the latest updates.

I am ready to use CCleaner and find and download and use REVO.

But I will wait for instruction.

GREAT!!
Lets do this first. I want you to run sfc /scannow 3 times and boot after each. You will need to do this from the cmd prompt/admin. This is Windows 7 way of checking it's own files and repairing if needed. Let us know the results. Then if things are okay will will get to the rest. Sometimes when you get infected those infections play with these Windows Files.

Ok, I found the command prompt and now running the first of sfc/ scannow in safe mode with network.

Is there a special way to reboot? Should I properly shut down the computer? (I usually hold down the power button). When it restarts, do I go back to safe mode with network, safe mode plain? or let it go to regular mode?

I would boot in normal/regular into Windows 7 and then run sfc /scannow.

some interesting things

first scan in safe mode found no threats
rebooted to regular, would not scan. Could not finish due to BSOD
running second and third scan in safe mode. just finished and no integrity violations were not found.

and these were not consecutive, some stuff and tweaking between modes occurred.

but still getting BSOD in regular mode.

If you aren't getting any .dmp files saved, check this Seven Forums Tutorial:
Dump Files - Configure Windows to Create on BSOD

Use Option One
Skip #5 and go to #6
In step #6 be sure to UN-check the 'Automatically restart' box, as this can prevent the crash dumps from being written.
Go to step 9.
Be sure to 'Restart after you save and close anything that you have open.'

Let us know if you have any questions.

Thank you for lending your expertise.

I first tried configuring Windows to create a dump file early in this thread to no avail. I even went as far as to create a C:\Windows\Minidump for the lack of one in the system.

Whenever I get the BSOD it says information has been dumped and I have to manually restart by holding my power button. I've restarted and booted to both safe mode and regular mode and searched C:\Windows\Minidump which ends up being an empty folder.

Don't use the power button.
Use the 'Start Button' :orb: and Shutdown or Restart as needed.
Depending on how the power button is configured, it can just instantly kill everything and this may cause file corruption.

Thank you for lending your expertise.

Go through the tutorial and make sure everything is correct, especially the UN-check the 'Automatically restart' box.
If the computer is turned off to soon after the crash it can't generate the dmp files.
This is important as we can get important information from the crash files.

I want to be so sure that I've followed the tutorial. the directions are so simple, but it is me, I could be missing something, but I have gone through the system properties many many times, it is becoming redundant.

I even went as far as to sending the minidump to a flash drive, but that didn't work either.

After failing and getting BSOD, what is the proper way to restart a computer?

I'm not sure if this helps but, only when operating in regular mode BSOD is triggered whenever I have tried to update MSE definitions and after I tried to download and install MAM. I'm sure it will be triggered by other things, but these are for sure.

I really want to get you those minidump files. I really, really do. For some reason, they are not being written when they say they are.

D/L and run WD Data Lifeguard Tools 11 for Windows

You may want to reconsider a clean install, buy that external HDD and after the clean install get a image backup. You won't have to clean install again, just restore the backup.
Clean install, all updates, install programs, test for a week and if everything is running well then make the backup image.

That is basically what my Startup/Recovery settings look like. System Failure is exact except that Small Dump is 128kb I think, smaller than what you have. System start up is different. None are checked. I can change that if you think that will help.

Some of these might not be AVs, but I usually associate these all together:

Malwarebytes
Microsoft Security Essentials
Hijack This
CCleaner

I might have used these a long while ago
Avast
AVG

While I was trying to run scans and whatnot, I went through an ordeal trying to install and uninstall MAM, but this was after trying to obtain a Minidump.dmp from my computer using the SevenForum diagnostic tool, which was my first attempt to solve the problem.

This may be a broad question since we do not have and idea of what is happening, but would a clean install solve the BSOD. I want to know the possibility of it being a hardware problem vs. software problem, in which case I'll go look for a new computer.

Do you have any good resources for a clean install? I bought MS7Pro online and lost my product key and cannot find the iso or exe file from when I bought it.

Thanks Again for helping

Now that you suggest I look at the drivers, I see that I cannot even run a scan on my DV6000 to check for drivers. As you stated, there are no drivers for my computer to run Win7Pro. How does that work? How did I skate by?

I'm sorry, this stuff is a little too technical for me, but I am trying to understand. Basically my drivers aren't matching?

Will I lose any data when I download and run Data Lifeguard?

I'll run it and go to bed.

What is a clean install? What is involved with that?

Thanks

Good news the HDD passed.

My System startup settings are for dual boot, I have Win7 & Windows 8 installed.
If you have only one OS then it's fine the way it is.

These applications are fine.
Malwarebytes
Microsoft Security Essentials
Hijack This
CCleaner

Did you run the removal programs for Avast and AVG?
If not then run them now.

Avast Uninstall Utility

AVG Remover

Sorry, with no Win7 product key you can't legally install it, there is a 30 day trial but that won't help you much.
You can D/L SIW - System Information for Windows - Home Edition.
Go to 'Software' > Licenses, it will show your current product key.

Windows 7 will install the drivers you need if you have a wired internet connection when you install it.
The Intel RST and graphics drivers can be installed from their site, there are others that you can search for if needed.

Did you install the Intel RST driver I linked above?

We can do some hardware testing and a few other tests to determine if the cause is hardware or software.

Run memtest86+ for a minimum of 7 full passes with all RAM cards installed, best to run overnight.
Stop the test if you get any errors.
RAM - Test with Memtest86+

Then run OCCT to test the CPU.
First Use Real Temp , to check the CPU temps when at idle, under load and/or testing.
Let us know the minimum and maximum temps you get.

OCCT stability checking tool
Run the CPU:OCCT test for at least 30 minutes, be sure to monitor your CPU and GPU temps.
Set the time before you start.
When its done, pass or fail, it will make some graphs. Post these here as they are useful for analyses.

There is a very good tutorial for a Clean Install, you copy all the data and files you want to keep and then format the HDD and install the OS.

This is now getting more interesting and more involved, but I am game.

1. I did not install the Intel RST driver, yet. I should I do it now? I will wait for a response.

2. I have the product key. I remember seeing two, one in "My Computer" properties (numbers) and the other one I was emailed (numbers and letters). I have Win7Pro will the SIW still work?

3. Regarding clean install and Win7. I bought the Win7Pro version ONLINE from Microsoft 2 years ago. I was emailed links for ISO and executions. I installed the OS, but now I cannot find the files on my HDD or on my computer. So at this point will I have to just purchase a new OS? I will look harder for those files. Even if I found them, would I still be able to use them?

4. I tried using Real Temp right now and the applications will not run. Two notifications I get are "Drivers not found. Try running as admin" and "could not open WinRing0.dll". This is after I unzipped and right clicked to Run as Admin.

5. I'm far from over night at the moment, how long are the mem tests? Can I set it to run 7 passes automatically?

Thanks
