I'll work on those in the morning - please don't try installing updates in the meantime - they may or may not work, but could destabilise what we've done.

Never mind the wait - done it...


I've uploaded a file - hcoac.zip - to my OneDrive at Noel's OneDrive
Please download and save it.

Right-click on the saved file and select Extract all...
Change the target to C:\ and click on Extract
Close all windows (it would be a good idea to print these instructions!)

Now reboot to the Repair Environment - as soon as the machine restarts, start tapping F8 - this should bring up the Advanced Boot Menu, at the top of which should be the option 'Repair my Computer'
Pick that
You'll have to log in with your username and password.

Pick the option to use a Command Prompt
At the prompt type
DIR C:\hcoac
hit the enter key - if you get a 'Not Found' error try
DIR D:\hcoac
or
DIR E:\hcoac



The drive letter in use when you find the folder will need to be substituted (for<drive>) into the following command...



XCOPY <drive>:\hcoac <drive>:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h



(e.g. XCOPY P:\wfire P:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h )



run the command (it should take almost no time) and when the prompt returns, type
EXIT
and hit the Enter key to exit Command Prompt - reboot to Normal Mode Windows.

Now run SFC /SCANNOW in an Elevated Command Prompt
then reboot and upload the new CBS.log file to your reply

Great - ChekSUR found and fixed some new errors - and didn't find the older missing payload files.

Do a Check for Updates - what's found? - Attempt to install ONLY the oldest found update - what happens?
If it goes in OK, try the rest. If not, post the error message.

CheckSUR says it's clear....
In that case, probably the best thing to do is to clear the update store...


This could be due to corruption in the SoftwareDistribution folder - the problem with that the conventional cure can lead to problems later on, if not handled properly, and you will lose your Update history (but the updates will still be installed, and viewable in the Installed Updates listing).

Open an Elevated Command Prompt
Run the following commands

NET STOP WUAUSERV
REN C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution SDOLD
NET START WUAUSERV

reboot
then wait 10 minutes, and open Windows Updates, and run a Check for Updates.

Install only the oldest update found - and reboot once installed (if it doesn't install, post KB number and error code)
then go back to Windows updates and install the others.

There doesn't appar to be anything specific in Google about the error message there - but try this (if it applies...)
uninstall KB2918614, KB3000988 and KB3008627 updates, then reboot twice before attempting to reinstall .NET again
