Hello

I was in the middle of playing Warframe while streaming music via YouTube when everything froze up.

I pulled up the task manager to exit out of programs individually. I could not open up any programs after closing them.

I then attempted to restart, but the computer froze up, so I manually shut it down. After attempting to restart, my first screen with the ASUS logo was filled with static boxes. When I got to the log on screen, I tried to log in, but was given a BSOD.

I restarted the computer in safe mode, and was able to log on, but still have the static on screen as I am typing this up.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

EDIT: When logged on normally, my screen will flicker with static and turned black, and after returning a bubble will come up mentioning Nvidia Kernel display error. I reinstalled my Nvidia, but I am still getting the same issues.

Have you checked the graphics card on another computer to rule out its damage? Once I met with such a case and was guilty of soldered chip. Maybe you have a similar problem?

No, and I don't have any other PC that would be compatible with it to test.

Hi All,
Greets,
mmurray1988 : As said by MrPepka, It seems Graphic card or Driver is the issue but first of all we need to largely google the bug/error codes of the two BSOD crashes to find the way out.

On analyzing the two Minidump files ( .dmp ) of the two crashes with BlueScreenView :

The VIDEO_TDR_ ERROR bug check has a value of 0x00000116. This indicates that an attempt to reset the display driver and recover from a timeout failed. (BSOD Index)

Hi,
To Both Of You :
Great finding, Thanks, Same way we have to solve the problem!

I feel WhoCrashed does a better & more friendly job than BlueScreenView
BlueScreenView was not coming out with the Bug Check String : VIDEO_TDR_ ERROR but WhoCrashed confirmed it.

Hi All,
Greets,

First of all we should try Hard Reset/Power Reset on the PC. That can bring the PC back to a normal start/normal mode start.
Hard Reset should not be mixed with Factory Reset or PC Reset!

Here it tells how to do it on a laptop with removable battery : What is a Hard Reset?

Hard Reset is a little different for a desktop depending on power supply type/options. But if one understand the concept, he can easily perform it on a desktop as well.
The objective is to shut down the system completely, deny any type of power supply and/or power backup & drain any type of residual power in any basic component of the system to give it an all fresh start.

So,

1. Eject & remove/unplug all the external media & devices ( CD/DVDs, external CD/DVD drives, Pen drives, USB devices, External Audio devices, other external devices, etc. )
2. Shut down the system completely.
3. Put the main supply button off & take the male plug out of the supply. ( If you are using any power backup, UPS, Battery, etc. switch them off & take the male plug out.)
4. Now continuously press the power button, leaving/loosing it after every 5-10 seconds, for about 1:30 minutes.
5. Put the batteries back, male plug back in the supply sockets & switch on the supply & normally start the PC.

Report how it goes.

Thanks & Regards. ...

torchwood : Thanks for the tip Sir! ( Please take lead! )

mmurray1988 : As pointed by sir torchwood, you have two Graphic cards & the on-board Intel Graphic Card is a 'problem device' in your system information which says 'Device Not Available' 'The drivers for this device are not installed '
As I come to know : When well configured, an on board card is meant to work while there is low graphic stress & thereby use power saving & keeps a system cool.
If Intel card is the problem, the other card will be in the function all the time, there will be excessive heat & the system will be turned off automatically.
The other thing may be that the two graphic cards are in conflict.

So,
1. Check whether the Intel HD Graphics 4000 is installed & showing well in the Device Manager ?
2. Boot into Safe Mode & Disable NVIDIA Card in the Device Manager. Then boot normally, Go into the Device Manager, Check the status of Intel & NVIDIA Card & Report how it all goes & stands ? How is the look ?
Don't do any Graphic card straining activity right now.

Thanks & Regards. ...

( EDIT : The latest BIOS Version is already installed )

The status for Intel is "the device is working properly."
However, I noticed the driver is from 2012. Could that have anything to do with it?

The status of Nvidia is "the device is disabled."

The same static still shows up.

Hi mmurray1988,
Greets,
1. So, Now that you have disabled NVIDIA Graphic Card, You are able to boot normally ? Does BSOD happen now ?
2. What you exactly mean by 'Static'. Can i have a nice snap ?
3. Apart from 'Static', How is the overall look in normal boot now ? Is it like Safe Mode Boot ?

1. Yes, I was able to boot normally. I've left the PC alone for a couple hours and have come back to no error messages.
2. See attached. I call it static because the white/blue/red lines you see will move around with activity of the mouse. They are also on the boot up screen.
3. Yes, it is like safe mode with only the most basic showing.
