BSOD while playing games with medium-level graphics

Hi,

I have recently run into a problem, where my PC goes into standby, with the sound getting all messed up while playing games that require even just a little bit of GPU, just before turning off and giving me a BSOD message.

I have also discovered that my GPU's (Gefore GTX 550 Ti) fan doesn't seem to rev up by itself, so I had to download MSI Afterburner to regulate fan speeds manually.

I've had this PC since Autumn, so it's a real shame that it's already having problems.

Are you overclocking? As you are getting BSODs, you should stop overclocking and run all the hardware components like CPU, GPU and RAM to their default settings.

Is the computer hot? Report us the heat of the computer after a couple of hours of your normal usage. Upload a screenshot of the summery tab of Speccy. Alternatively, you can publish a Speccy snapshot too: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/311593-speccy-publish-snapshot-your-system-specs.html .

Stress test the Graphics Card using Furmark.

Install the NVIDIA DRIVERS 314.22WHQL only.

• Uninstall All nvidia items in Control Panel > Programs and features
  • 3D Vision Control Driver
  • 3D Vision Driver
  • Graphics Driver
  • HD Audio Driver
  • PhysX
  • nvidia Update
  (Are you using nvidia chipset drivers? If so, dont uninstall anything other than those are listed).
• Now follow Drivers - Clean Left over Files after Uninstalling
• Download 314.22 WHQL. While installing, Select Custom (Advanced) install. In the next page, follow this settings:
  
  

Let us know the results. But, using a GPU with a not-properly-working fan is always bearing a risk of stop 0x116.

I haven't really gone out of my way to overclock anything specific, so I'm guessing that's not it.

I uninstalled everything Nvidia related and did a clean sweep of any display drivers. Installed the driver you provided and after about 15 minutes of game time in FIFA 14, my PC shut down as usual.

I'll try to run Speccy for a few hours.

So I've been using Speccy for a while. The processor doesn't seem to heat up at all, but the graphics card seems to gradually rise in temps. I've tried using Afterburner to manually set the fan speeds, but even when I manage to keep the temp at a steady 55C, the PC still randomly shuts down.

EDIT: Also, I'd like to add, that my GPU's voltage seems to be +0.024V. That seems really low.

I see that you did not take the suggestion about the display driver given in post #4.

I actually did wipe my graphics card driver and replaced it with the one you provided, but as I noted earlier, it changed nothing. The PC kept shutting down after a BSOD, even with the fan speed turned to 66%. The graphics card doesn't actually overheat at all, but the PC keeps shutting down.

The decision is: it is a hardware issue.

Now we have to search for the reasons of display crash/BSOD in hardware.

Check if the Power Supply Unit (PSU) supplying adequate power to the computer or not.

Also let us know the wattage of the PSU.

Let us know about all those, specifically, and how it is wanted. Otherwise it will be difficult to arrive at any further decision to isolate the hardware that is failing.

I'm pretty sure I'm not overclocking anything and I'd rather not run Furmark, since it might just burn my apartment down.

Also, I haven't got the slightest clue about PSUs and wattages, sorry.

I'm guessing it isn't caused by inadequate wattage, I've tried several different power outlets and power strips and it seems as if my PC is shutting down quicker and quicker each time. Also, it's a problem that's gotten worse over time.
