Here's my BSOD report.

The GeForce graphics card error is a [now] 'long-standing' problem; I doubt that has anything to do with this BSOD

-Windows 7 X64
-Not the original OS (was Vista)
-Full retail (legally bought) version
-I bought my computer/hardware on 13th March 2007
-installed Windows 7 [32-bit] on 24th October 2009, then the 64-bit on 4th January 2011

Hello Gaz, You've got a lot going on there...

Please fully disable your smartcard reader, not only the usb connection in device settings, but also the respective storage volumes it tries to create (if they are visible in device settings) i.e. F:\ (SD card), H:\ (SM card), G:\ (CF card) and I:\ (MS card)

Also please re-install (if you need it) your PS/2 mouse, its driver seems to be messed up.

Then reboot. If you still have problems, next step is to:

- Look at "STOP 0x0000003B" Stop error on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 when you use some IEEE 1394 devices

and please give us a little more info on when, how, in what circumstances you get these crashes.

Some background on your videocard would be good too as it is also mentioned as an issue...

Aaaaah! Now I know what this sound is [through the speakers] that I keep hearing every time I login to Windows - and it makes that noise 4 times because there's 4 'portable drives' that has a problem!

Every time I login to Windows, I get a low "dudu-dun" sound coming through the speakers. It's been making that sound for a few weeks now, and I never thought to check that it meant "Device failed to connect" (confirmed by the default sound it makes) until you said the problem was the storage devices.

I've clicked 'disable' for each of the 'Portable Devices' (and they still have the ! next to each one) - does that mean it's fully disabled then now? Also, which one is the 'USB connection' in device settings [the same as Device Manager?]

For the mouse: In Device Manager, It's got 2 of them - and I'm not sure which one my mouse is using:
HID-compliant mouse (which is fine), and
Microsoft PS/2 Mouse (which has Code 24 next to it)

How do you re-install the mouse if you need the mouse to install it again?

I can't really give you much info on when, how, in what circumstances I get these crashes, as I wasn't doing anything to do with the portable devices at the time - I was just browsing the internet (with Firefox)... and maybe perhaps also running a virus scan


The whole background to my videocard can be seen in this thread (and the one's linked to it). There's a reason I haven't tried sorting the graphics card out yet, which is a little long-winded to go into here.

Sometimes there is also a problem with the usb connection to the smartcard reader. if, in your case in the device manager, the USB's are no problem, then disabling the cards as you've done should be enough and... you should not hear the beeps anymore..

About the mouse, if your current mouse is usb: delete the ps2

How frequent are these crashes?

For now, lets just hope it was the smartcard reader (actually its drivers) and see if you run stable now?
