Finally upgraded from a gt220 card to a hd 6870 and everything seems to be working fine except when I'm playing higher end games such as Dead Island or Bad company 2. It seems to be crashing at random and I have no idea where to start to look. I don't know if I should RMA the card or what. I have the latest drivers and I driver swept for old nvidia drivers and physx already before I installed ati drivers. It only seems to crash randomly with higher end games, for example I have played older games (games that came out around 2006ish and tf2) for hours with no problems. I've been monitoring temps while playing and neither my CPU or GPU has had unusually high temps. Highest logged is about 52 for CPUS and approx 60 for GPU. This is my first experience with an ati video card so I don't know if its just a faulty card or maybe my older motherboard is not compatible or if I should have just stuck with nvidia. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
edit: I've also done 1 pass with ram checker and no problems came up. Also, last time I've had a clean format is approx. 1 year ago.

Specs :

Intel core duo e4600 2.4ghz

motherboard: in9 32x-max

8gb ram

64 bit win 7

sapphire hd6870

corsair gs700w power supply

attached is dump files and perfmon results. Thanks guys.

Hi chief welcome to SF :)
Before using RMA

Please update your Silicon Image driver
Silicon Image - Support

Uninstall and clean ati software\driver,restart.

Download and install 10-11_vista64_win7_64_dd_ccc_enu,use custom install and uncheck\disable the free game and registration, restart.

Then download and install 11-8_vista64_win7_64_dd_ccc_ocl again use custom install and uncheck\disable catalyst 2.

http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

This way you have the newest drivers without the new catalyst.

Update
your windows using the windows update.

Try again to high end gaming.

Please post back the results for the next step.

First, thank you for the help. I have installed the latest Silicon Image drivers like you directed, of all the things I have thought of to update, that was not on my mind. With the ati drivers, I actually installed the stand alone drivers so I do not have the CCC because I have heard that causes more problems then its worth. When you said try again to high end gaming, I'm not sure what you meant by that. Does that mean try the gaming forum or try playing the games again?

Okay, I installed the Silicon drivers and have the latest ATI drivers without the control center, and have nothing left to update with win update. Everything seemed fine and I thought my problems were solved, but I still got a blue screen tonight while playing BC2. I have new set of perfmon report and the new dump file included in the zip. Could someone take a look and break down for me why the blue screen came up again? I don't understand why this newer card is giving me these problems. Could it be my older motherboard is not compatible? I've been thinking about trying this card with a different motherboard and CPU setup and see if I still get these problems.

Ran stress test no problem at 1600x900(what I play games in). Temps leveled out at 75 degrees, let it run for another minute just to be sure, still did not have any problems with the gpu stress test.

Going to try a clean install of win 7. See if that might clear up any driver problems.
