Hi all,
This is my first post on this forum so please be patient with any errors I may make.
My problem began 2 weeks ago when my PC began to crash uncontrollably resulting in a BSOD screen, the problem rapidly got worse with each subsequent boot up resulted in a faster BSOD error. Eventually my PC booted to a black screen with a single white dash on the upper right hand corner of the screen, a google search suggested a possible SSD MBR failure, I transferred my personal data to my Laptop via USB.
To just double check I began a fresh installation on my SSD and to my surprise Windows 10 booted and installed fine. I updated my drivers and all was well, however I then installed Warcraft 3 (a classic game I wanted to play) and got BSOD VIDEO DXGKRNL FATAL ERROR on game launch. I attempted to update and then do fresh install of my display drivers. However this did not stop the BSOD, I felt the easiest solution was to install Windows 7 again, so I did.
The problems with BSOD did not cease with Windows 7, whenever I launch Warcraft 3 I began to get BSOD atikmpag, dxgkrnl, dxgmms1. I tested another game (I don't play just installed to examine), DOTA 2 and the same error occurs on launch.
The following is what I have already attempted based on my google research:
- Updating drivers, rolling back drivers (I have tried all version -2014,2016 and 2018)
- Cleaning fans and reapplying thermal paste to prevent overheating/stress
- To install latest Directx
- Another clean install of Windows 7
- To ensure BIOS setting is not overclocking graphic cards.
The following if suggestion I have found however have not tried as I do not wish to risk bricking my PC.
- Flashing BIOS with latest version (which is 2015)
I have discovered that my PC has integrated and dedicated graphic card. In AMD catalyst software I can configure the switchblade graphics setting to low (using only the onboard graphics) on games, this prevented the BSOD on Warcraft 3. So it seems to be an issue with my dedicated graphics? I also did find the bridge that connected the motherboard to the graphics card had significant dust, however this is clean now.
I have uploaded the files as instructed by the forum, if anyone has any idea on how to solve this would be grateful. I'm not much of a gamer so not being to play is not an issue however want to resolve this as do not like the idea of having a ready to die PC.
Kind regards,
FAHIM
