Solved BSOD's due to unstable RAM voltage?

HI guys,

I have been getting BSODs for a while as posted before but am wondering if it is all to do with the RAM voltage?

I have an Asus M4A88T-V EVO USB3 mb with AMD Phenom II x4 840 black edition cpu.
2 x 2G Crucial Ram (tried 2 different sorts, same result) in the slots 3 and 4 as 1 and 2 seem to be useless.
AMD Radeon R9 270 975MHz 2GB GDDR5 PCI-E 3.0 HDMI DirectCU II OC500G gfx card.
500G Samsung and 1TB Toshiba HDDs.
Powered by OCZ ModX StreamPro 500W power supply.

The crashes I have had lately give me one or another of the (shut down for safety) messages. I have had to try a few times to get back into BIOS as I had to use the MemOK button on mb to set ram voltage again. I didnt always check it in the BIOS but in the last ones I have, the mem voltage has gone up to the RED 2.6 or more. I think this may be happening regularly when gaming or watching videos although it has happened when pc has been idle for a time. After I reset it to 1.5v pc boots and runs until next crash.

Now the questions:- Is this a fault in the power supply, or do I need a higher wattage one?
Is the ram unstable although this happens with different sets of ram sticks?
Is the MB on the way out?
Any other suggestions?

Hey there! This couldn't necessarily mean the voltage. It could be that the DIMM slots are failing.
Run MemTest86+ for 8 passes. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/105647-ram-test-memtest86.html

Next time when a BSOD occurs snap a picture of it.

I'll run memtest86+ later and see what I get, and post back results. Also keep camera handy for snapping BSOD.

Hi again,

Ran MemTest86+ for 8 passes over night, results full passes, no errors at all. Although when I ran it the first time the comp froze after 3 passes, so a reboot was needed to start again. So the memory sticks seem to be ok. Have had no BSOD's today with that mem but had a few freezes/lockups, had to force reboot.

I ran checks in the first 2 dimm slots and had errors with the same memory as tested above so they look like they are bad?

Hi back again.

I have had a few days with no problems but know the same thing is happening again as before.

This time I got a BSOD after changing the ram sticks for another set in same slots. First screenshot. (DSCF3189.jpg)

Then after changing them back to what run ok I had a couple of days good, then getting other BSOD's at various times as shown in other screesnhots. Is this still pointing to dodgy motherboard or now something else. I have checked that all drivers are up to date yesterday as well.

Please post the new dumps. But judging from the screenshots it's still the RAM as you got an FC and an 1A. You should replace the motherboard to get rid of the failing DIMM slots.

I've bought a new mobo and have it installed now and have transfered the system drive to it. I followed the P2P instructions and had a couple of hiccups.

Set up the new BIOS quite easily and then run P2P to make the changes. I used the Auto config option and just waited for it to do its work. I must add that before this the pc booted up 1st time on new mobo with just a clone of the drive from the old mobo. Just a few things had to be done, including getting rid of the "first boot configuring" problem with the reg edits mentioned in another post here.

When I tried to install the drivers and utils (from the Asus site) they seemed to install ok, but now I am having problems installing AISuite and others. When I log in to my desktop I get some error messages as shown in the screen grab attached. I have tried uninstalling but when clicking to run the installer it never shows a screen and just fails to complete, no error messages.

I would like to get this corrected please if possible.

Hmm, you can remove the AISuite and try. If that dosen't work then you probably have to do a fresh install.

I tried to uninstall AISuite but that failed so removed all references to it in the registry and deleted files and folder from drive. Rebooted and tried install again but still failed. Due to the fact that are a few freezes on some system windows or requesters at times, although the mobo upgrade was ok there are some errors that cannot be repaired by windows repair so I will be doing a clean re-install of Win7 soon.

I have marked this thread as solved as it originally was about the ram problems wich are now fixed by a new mobo.
