Build 7600 any changes?

So would it be worht updating , or waiting for the new rtm build that appears to be here

First off, I edited my post to account for 7600 not being RTM.

If you want the version that will effectively be released, you'll want to wait for the true RTM and then download it when it surfaces. As far as new implementations go, you won't find any non-cosmetic changes, just bug fixes and tweaks assuming you're currently using an RC build.

I also installed it, it seems it has some newer drivers for my wireless device. Also it seems a bit snappier in startup and response.

The thing I didn´t see during install is the screen I can choose version (Home, Ultimate.....) I left the key blank.

If you didnt get addicted to all the builds like we (specially ME) did till now,
you should better wait for the FINAL version.

I don t think its worth to start it now... Most of us are doing clean installations an updates cause we started with the BETA and we are on fire with every new Build... even if the changes are minor visible or recognizable ;)

My recommandation is to wait... if you have done it till now you could also wait some more time :D

isnt strange that all versions have same size?

Hi there everyone, first post.

I've been thru 3 builds now, the beta, RC 7100 and now on 7201 basically to try and get third party codecs working well with the system, rather than M$'s locked codec pack.

I have been thru all the mediacenters as this is the primary use for my PC: MCE2005 then VMC and now onto 7MC. I am having such issues with third party codecs in WMP and Mediacenter on windows 7.

I have managed to get CoreAVC and Haali working in both 7MC and WMP for H264/VC1 decoding. I'm using TMT3 for Bluray playback, which is fine and integrates well with 7MC. My issue is with FFDshow and avi/divx/M4V/etc. I have tried various apps to improve the merit of ffdshow but with no avail. The other thing is Live TV in 7MC, it works from fresh boot, but once 7MC is closed and reopened the service is unavailable.

I understand that we haven't hit RTM release and these constraints with 3rd party codecs maybe lifted in the RTM.

The real point to this is.... Does anyone know if 7600 build removes these restraints for third party codecs installation or is Windows Media Foundation going to prevent FFDshow from allowing for it's own control.

Many Thanks in advance and sorry for the long post, just trying to give you as much information as possible.

Cheers

Dave

Why not just install K-lite Mega codec pack (free) and use the MPC Home Cinema player it comes with. It has all the codecs, ffd show, etc., all integrated. Works beautifully on W7 (all the builds I've tried including the latest and best, 7600.

Does MPC Home cinema player integrate with 7MC. I will give it a shot and see how it fairs up.

Actually, in the set up for K-lite, you can choose whether you want to use WMP or the MPC (Media Player Classic, that it comes with), so maybe. But I haven't played around with 7MC yet so I don't really know.

I use MPC with K-lite for video and Foobar for audio (both freeware), so hardly ever use WMP anymore. Both those apps come with tons of codecs.

how did it install 4-5 minutes faster for some of you.. when the entire process already only took 13 minutes on my PC.. if Windows 7 can install in 8 minutes I'd be amazed!!

or even better. 7 minutes

You should do an install from flash drive to an SSD. I'll bet my last one was 7-8 minutes! I was shocked!

Not to tangent from my original question, does anyone know the answer to this within build 7600 as feature relative to OP.

I use an old build (7124 or something) and are using CoreAVC for H264 and FFDShow for xvid/divx etc?

Don't understand what problems people are having?

It just tanked these. Now I have the standard IE icon. Until I use the link again, then it re-acquires the site icon. It's a change. Wait, no it's not. Wait, it's a change.

Issues are as follows (I know they are codec related under WMP & 7MC as I get no problems with live TV using DVBViewer where I have FFDshow for MPEG2 and CoreAVC for HD broadcasts and get the relevant tray icons during broadcasting)

My issues lie with the new Windows 7 media foundation (locked codec pack included in W7), which M$ claim to be the answer to everyones codec prayers, unfortunately this is not the case for the media I'm running. I want to use Media Center as I have it all set up for movies, music, shoutcast radio and i just need the live TV to complete it. Using only the M$ DVD-DVT decoders seems to break TV and the system will not allow for 3rd party codecs even after disabling the M$ one in the registry and system32 folder.

I've heard that the RTM will not lock out 3rd party codecs but I'm not too sure how true the source is, and wondered if anyone else was using Windows 7 as a HTPC and found that build 7600 allowed the use of 3rd party codecs without registry hacks etc.
