Build 7600 any changes?

for me the only thing new was faster install time, smaller iso. but the funny thing is, this time it didnt automatically download the video drivers,,, but before it did, weird?

couple of hours after the x64 was leaked has anyone installed this build? any noticeable changes? post them here! :D

other than the game of download, unrar, burn iso image to dvd, copy iimage back toto hd, modify one entry in source, the installation went faultessly.Until keycode...prior working code did not function, went with blank,
Seems that whatever worked before works now and havent had a chance to see what s new yet.

i just upgraded from 7232 to 7600.

upgrade went surprisingly smoothly, but compatability wizard/advisor thingy warned me that ATI catalyst control center and daemon tools wouldn't work after the upgrade.

it was right! they don't work properly - CCC is choppy - but i use ati tray tools anyway, and daemon tools doesnt work at all, but ultraiso mounts virtual drives with no problems.

all my other software still seems to work - yipee!

Very straightforward. After doing the upgrade install I only had to install one driver for a synaptics touchpad plus reinstall my antivirus software. It's a good idea to deactivate or, even better uninstall any anti-virus apps before doing the upgrade and reinstall after. Also had to play around with Comodo Firewall pro to get it operating properly following the upgrade. All in all, pretty straightforward and working flawlessly after fixing the above mentioned things.

Bought the Dell secondhand for cheap and upgraded cpu, vga, ram, soundcard, psu and HDD's.
Thanks Peter. It's late here and I got to work tomorrow. I'll try an upgrade tomorrow night.
This will mean I'll have to do the rearming business I believe.
Can you automate that?

Cheers, John:D

the upgrade was VERY straightforward, and involved very minimal file tweakage, but i don't think i can discuss cversion.ini here, so i won't.

My issues lie with the new Windows 7 media foundation (locked codec pack included in W7),.... Using only the M$ DVD-DVT decoders seems to break TV and the system will not allow for 3rd party codecs even after disabling the M$ one in the registry and system32 folder.
.

I have TV including DVB-T working under 7264 with a hauppauge card. When I first installed, the driver that w7 installed for the tv capture card was not good and I had some problems with TV. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't, could not find the device after resuming from sleep, etc.

I resolved them by installing the vista drivers for my device from hauppauge.

Everything works well now.

Mark

Automating the rearm, that I don't know, but I would think possibly with the windows task scheduler. However, I suspect you will be reinstalling or upgrading to the "gold" RTM release very shortly, way before the first 30 days are up and then, for those who have TechNet subscriptions, legal keys should be available also before the first 30 days have passed. Otherwise you can simply rearm until general availability.

If you are doing an upgrade install (as opposed to clean install) from an RC, you probably will need to do the MS W7 Engineering approved modification to the cversions file to be able to upgrade. The procedure is explained by MS here: Engineering Windows 7 : Delivering a quality upgrade experience

Occasionally, some programs need to be uninstalled and reinstalled after an upgrade install. Before abandoning the new version, it's a good idea to at least check and see if that plus a reboot or two solves the problems. It usually does for me.

Issues are as follows (I know they are codec related under WMP & 7MC as I get no problems with live TV using DVBViewer where I have FFDshow for MPEG2 and CoreAVC for HD broadcasts and get the relevant tray icons during broadcasting)

My issues lie with the new Windows 7 media foundation (locked codec pack included in W7), which M$ claim to be the answer to everyones codec prayers, unfortunately this is not the case for the media I'm running. I want to use Media Center as I have it all set up for movies, music, shoutcast radio and i just need the live TV to complete it. Using only the M$ DVD-DVT decoders seems to break TV and the system will not allow for 3rd party codecs even after disabling the M$ one in the registry and system32 folder.

I've heard that the RTM will not lock out 3rd party codecs but I'm not too sure how true the source is, and wondered if anyone else was using Windows 7 as a HTPC and found that build 7600 allowed the use of 3rd party codecs without registry hacks etc.

Have you tried Preferred DirectShow Filters Tool for Windows 7 ??

6" 4"", top lip, and walks about a lot !!

Yes and the MCDU tool. None work for me.

I have actually sorted the codecs out manually now, with registry hacks, renaming some system32 files and meriting them using radlight filter manager and have all codecs working the way I want, so I now know that it's to do with the TV Card, so will have to wait for Technisat to actually pull their fingers out and release some W7 BDA drivers, they are not the most helpful lot.
