I'm about to purchase the parts and build my own PC. I have win 7 pro 64 retail key and install on a USB stick. I have PS/2 KBM+Mouse. Will I be ok?

Can I install the Win 7 Pro iso from usb just fine or should I burn it to a disc and do a disc drive install instead ?

Will my USB peripherals be recognized once I install the chipset driver?

And should I instead get an Intel chip? The 7700k and 1700x are the same price where I live.

I'm not worried about updates because I have the user created patch to get updates.

P.S. No I will not use classic shell with windows 10. Win10 sucks and I refuse to use it.

I have PS/2 KBM+Mouse. Will I be ok?

It is an excellent idea to have a computer with PS/2 keyboard and mouse ports, because it is possible for USB to have issues, which could make your USB keyboard and mouse unusable. This has happened to me twice in the last 10 years. Because I had PS/2 ports, I was able to locate a PS/2 mouse and keyboard and then easily fix the USB problem.

If you are actually using a PS/2 keyboard and mouse, then a USB failure will never affect your keyboard and mouse.

The only problem with using a PS/2 keyboard and mouse is that you won't be able to purchase the kind of keyboard or mouse that you want if it isn't available as PS/2. On the other hand, if you like the original IBM "clicky" keyboard (that's the one I use), you will need a PS/2 keyboard port, or a PS/2 to USB adapter, in order to be able to use this keyboard. The PS/2 port is better than the adapter, because you will have true PS/2 all the way, so if USB fails for any reason, your keyboard will continue to work.

Will my USB peripherals be recognized once I install the chipset driver?

Yes.

And should I instead get an Intel chip? The 7700k and 1700x are the same price where I live.

I'm not worried about updates because I have the user created patch to get updates.

If you're going to go with Intel, I suggest that you get either a Haswell chip or a Broadwell chip. (I'm not familiar with AMD chips.) I personally wouldn't want to risk not being able to get updates. Also, I have heard that you might not be able to install Windows 7 with the newer chips, but I can't confirm that. About a year ago I purchased a new Dell Windows 7 computer. I made sure it had a Haswell chip (Broadwell wasn't available) so that I could be sure that there would be absolutely no problems with running or updating Windows 7 on my computer.

I hope this helps.

As I wrote before, new chipsets only have USB 3.x and Win 7 doesn't have the drivers for USB 3.x so you have to use a Win 7 installation DVD.

Install Windows 8.1 with Classic Shell. If your hardware doesn't have 8.1 drivers, use Windows Server 2012 R2 drivers on 8.1. They work. Everything works. Stay away from Windows 10.
