Solved Buzzing noise from the tower

Hi all, back to the gurus!!
Just tried to convert a few movies to AVI, using Freemake video converter. Gets to around 5% and then I get a buzzing sound emanating from the tower. Didn't sound like a fan hum or the like, a bzzzzz like a loud mozzie. Disconnected everything, took off the side cover and blew it out with compressed air but there wasn't a great deal of gunk anyway. Plugged her back in but same thing happens!! Any clues guys and gals??

Update: I ran CPUID HWmonitor and then tried to convert the file while watching CPUID. The line under temperature (TMPIN2) got to 80c and then the buzzing started. Does this mean I have to redo the thermal paste or something else? (It was a stock standard CPU when installed and no extra paste was used.

Are you trying to burn it directly to cd/dvd? Just convert & save the AVI on the computer, then burn it cd/dvd disk.

Video rendering is very CPU intensive and requires more than "normal" cooling. The buzzing you hear is probably an alarm from/on your motherboard. 80C a high temp for many CPUs to operate. You can set the alarm temp in the BIOS.

You may need to reseat the CPU with fresh compound and make sure the cooler isn't clogged, doesn't "tilt" and make sure the case is ventilated (away from other heat sources, good air flow, etc.).

I've never re-seated (or seated!) a CPU before but looked up Dr Google and have used the 2 line method for thermal paste. These are the temps showing on HWMmonitor and frankly, I wouldn't have a clue if it's good bad or what.

Not so good. Tried to convert a movie and the alarm went off again. Took this snip at the time. Maybe I didn't do the re-seating thing properly?? One point of note....it did get further along in the conversion process before the alarm went off its tree!! Dunno what to do now...??

How well is the case ventilated? What is the room temperature where the case sits?

No problems with location, air flow, ambient temp etc. Should I try re-seating again........

Are you usign the stock retail cooler or a third party cooler?

Stock standard system. I took it apart again and reckon I might have overdone the application
the first time
Cleaned it up again with iso alc and just put a pea sized dot in the middle. Started her up and got about halfway through a conversion but the temps gradually got up and alarm went off again. Maybe I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed but this is giving me the irrits!
Possibly change the thermal paste? I wanted Arctic silver#5 but the only stuff I could get in a hurry was Coolermaster V1 IC

I think it's time for a cpu cooler upgrade. Open the back of your case and if the hole provided exposes the CPU back plate then you'll have a easier time for the swap. Many great coolers both air and sealed water available. I run all water coolers and they are amazing and quiet but many swear by air !

Be aware of the clearance in the case to your side panel and also the height of your ram modules and location in their ram slots when looking at air solutions. Look at the case manufactures website for water cooling solutions in radiator size 120mm/140mm 240mm 280mm locations and consider the largest that fits.

Your 3.3 and 5.0 volts are very low.
A poor power supply can also make noise when under load.

Thanks to all for your input, bit the bullet and went and bought an aftermarket cooler! Just a cheapie but it's done the job. Installed it and walahh, temps are now in the 50-56 degree mark when under load converting videos. Damn computers, always something :sarc: Thanks again fellers

LB, psu doesn't make any noises and everything seems to be working OK. Is there something else I should worry about? The psu was new when I got the comp built only a year or so back.

Power supply buzzing is maybe coil whine (high pitched sound emitted because of physical vibration of coil caused by variable magnetic field ) which is normal but leaking condensator will also produce similar noise.

I see what you mean. This is the HWinfo read and sure looks a little different. BTW I had no noise at all coming from PSU or no apparent fault with it. Comp is running well with the new cooler fitted, did some heavy processing last night and stayed cool enough............ Well, the grandkids are up (4am xmas morn) so to all, have a great day, eat and drink heaps and be happy
