I recently ditched Firefox for IE8

Firefox was so slow loading, especially Google and Yahoo - also not a day went by in which I didn't get a ffox dialogue box saying, "Aren't we embarassed - ffox just crashed."

IE8 has yet to crash and does everything ffox does only faster and smoother

IE8 - a nice surprise

It's unfortunate that you experienced these problems. I can say that I certainly don't see those issues on my machines. Oh well, I'm sure that IE8 will meet your needs as it's used by a majority of users.

only by trying a variety of browsers can you figure out which one is right for your machine - that's pretty much how computing goes: get it, try it out, kick the tires, and figure out what works and what doesn't

This is the reason I like Chrome. I still get crashes, but every tab, add-on, and plug-in has its own process, so when one happens I usually just have to hit refresh on that page and I'm right back to what I was doing in 2 seconds or less.

yeah....Thats not a good reason to switch....

On the latest stable release, I've seen some processes for it get up to 800MB. Granted you have leave a tab open a long time before that happens and all you have to do is kill that process for that one tab and reload the page, but the problem is still there. Just wanted to make sure you knew.

Completely the opposite here. My IE8 has been slow as hell, despite the fact that my Firefox has TONS of add-ons running.

Try Chrome if you don't like FF. I was a FF fan until the 3.5 releases. I switched to Chrome and have never looked back especially now that they have extensions. It opens, loads and pretty much does everything faster than FF. I still use FF on 1 site that seems to not be optimized for Chrome's engine. I have recently tried out FF 4 beta 2 and it is a big improvement, but until support for my favorite add-ons is available, I'll stick with Chrome.

Two seconds here, four seconds there, if you like the browser stay with it. Life goes by fast enough without worrying about your browser speed. Remember life is like a roll of toilet paper, the closer to the end it gets, the faster it goes. So if you like your browser , don't worry about a few seconds to open.

Ditto here. Firefox is slow. IE 8 is significantly faster. It takes less than 2 seconds to load while Firefox around 7-10 seconds. See this thread here for another comment: http://www.sevenforums.com/browsers-mail/99677-just-me-ie-faster-than-firefox-moment.html
