I have the exactly the same problem. I guess we'll have to wait for new drivers from c-media. If they dont release them when Win 7 finally goes RTM I'm buying new sound card with chip from some othe vendor.

C-media was always slow with driver updates
I wonder what Microsoft changed that made these Vista-x64 drivers unusable :S

Like you, I've not been able to find any Windows Seven drivers -- but I believe I've found the reason why. I have a card with that chip and read that C-Media will NOT be producing anymore drivers because ASUS has full rights to the chip now. They used it in their Xonar line, but they rewrote the drivers to work with their cards.

Auzentech was a big user of that chip, in their X-Meridian line, and only a few months after they brought out their cards, ASUS bought the chip rights and Auzentech announced they would no longer be making the cards.

I have a Auzentech X-plosion Cinema 7.1 which also has a C-Media chip. The "current" available drivers for it performed badly (BSOD's) until build 7000, when they miraculously started working problem free.

My cards drivers are multi-verse drivers (x32/x64/XP/Vista) which actually use the XP interface instead of the Vista interface on Seven.

Perhaps try installing the Vista drivers with XP compatibility mode. Or even try the XP drivers instead.

http://www.cmedia.com.tw/drivers.html

What cards are these exactly? on-board/PCI/PCI-e etc? Maybe try to grab the drivers from the manufacturers and not directly from C-Media.

I contacted Auzentech support several months ago and they claimed that C-Media were releasing Seven beta drivers around June. However that was several months ago and a lot of things could have changed....

Just as topic starter I have PCI sound card with 8738 chip. I know this chip is fairly old, but C-media did released drivers for cards based on this chip recently for xp and vista both x32 and x64. This chip has nothing in common with Asus Xonar.
As Ajulian said Win7 x64 driver (for vista x64) installs without any problems, but when you click on a c-media control panel in system tray windows freezes so you are stuck with default setings.

Hehe, normaly I'm such a noob, but I guess I fixed it. It's rather easy. It appears that the HT Omega Striker 7.1 (C-Media chipset) works perfectly with Windows 7 RC. So I downloaded the driver (here HT Omega - Driver Downloads) for my Club3D Theatron DD (also C-Media chipset). After that I had the Xear3D working. Than I installed the drivers to my own soundcard. Somehow it didn't update the Xear3D program. After assigning the sounds to digital out in the control panel and in Xear3D, I have full working 5.1 out via toslink. Yay me...

I'm glad it worked out for other cards. Most likely it will work for all the C-Media chipsets.

Hi Borwitz,

That's bad news. I used the driver for Striker 7.1 Vista 32/64. I think the same as Ajulian mentioned out. Then the Xear3d worked for me, but still no sound. Then I used the drivers for my own card. This is the thing that got everything running. The drivers were installed, but it didn't update de Xear3D software. I did get the options for my card. I really hoped this would work for all C-Media chipsets. Let us know if it works for you.

Ok, I could install it, test it so the 5 speakers to work, but when I play music in windows media player, only 2 of the speakers work actually... I already set the default sound device as player of WMP, but it still doesn´t work properly...

any more tips??

maybe try this

How can I get multi-channel sound when playing stereo music?

The driver has been specifically designed not to process any sound that passes through it. It therefore doesn't upmix stereo sources to multiple channels by itself. For doing this, you can choose from a variety of plugins for favourite music player which give you control over the upmixing process, e.g. Foobar, Winamp, generic DirectSound.
it's from their FAQ:

C Media already has a windows 7 drivers for this product "CMI8738 Windows 7 RC Build7100 CMI8738 BETA driver for Windows 7
You can download it from this link: C-Media Company Information

The problem is that when you use wndows media player, winamp or other program for listen multimedia files, only plays on front speakers, they also have a message in the bottom of the page: Windows 7 beta drivers do not support to record the playing digital audio (WAVE)

Somebody has any solution for listen music in all speakers??

Try seting System input to 2 CH and analog output to 6 CH in c-media control panel. Worky for me that way in all players you mentioned :)
