Genuine windows error keeps popping up and I can't figure how to solve. Copy of diagnostics below. Any step by step help would be greatly appreciated, as Microsoft's solution is to buy another activation code it seems!

If KB3004394 is installed - uninstall it, reboot twice, then post a new MGADiag report
...note that Windows Update will then detect a new version of KB3004394 to be installed - this should not cause problems.

I'm sure it had a status of 'failed' when I checked that one, but I will have another look tonight thanks. If it is 'failed' what would you suggest? My computer is failing on a grand scale with the windows updates, ever since around 11th December, which was just short of when KB3004394 tried to install. O

KB3004394 was released on 10/12/14 - and almost certainly is the cause of this problem.
Check the Installed Updates list.
If it's not there.....

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Please also post the C:\Windows\windowsudpate.log file

Thanks. Checked for the KB3004394 and it has failed on every occasion, first attempt being 11th December. A few other successful updates and failed ones between 11th and 16th December, and then complete update failures from there on, apart from Office updates. I'm just downloading Hotfix for Windows (KB947821), which I take it is what I am supposed to be doing from the link you provided. It's taking its time to install but I am a patient man (to a degree) so i'll sit it out for sure. Can't keep my eyes open at the minute though so might have to post up the further info tomorrow (man flu). Thanks for you help so far though, greatly appreciated.

Hi Well stuck it out so as may well attach the results. I ha to remove a lot of the CBSpersist files as it was a whopping 31mb when zipped. Hope this is enough info. I can send the rest separately but one of them is 15mb and I don't how to reduce this file any further.

This may simply be caused by a bad set of Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers -

Installing the Intel Rapid Storage Drivers

(you want the iata_enu.exe download)

Once complete, please reboot twice, then post another MGADiag report.

I've attached my elevated command attempt to see if I have followed instruction correct (you will notice my first two attempts were definitely incorrectly done!).
I left for an hour, rebooted, noticed no updates done, attempted to single out a couple of files randomly to update but still no joy. So then ran the MGADiag.
Ive also attached a previous error code from yesterdays update attempts, where all 18 updates were ticked.

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Please also post the C:\Windows\windowsudpate.log file

Hi- will get onto this. Sorry, I was waiting for my emails to tell me I had a response, silly me as it never came.
Just downloading SURT again as I didn't save last time. My memory tells me it takes a while when you run this, so at this hour, I think I will pick this up tomorrow at an earlier point in the night. Keep you posted

Okay, so ran SURT, then tried SFC /scannow 3 times as it said it can take multiple attempts before fixing all errors, however still unable to fix all errors. So restarted computer and ran sfc /scannow again a32 updates advised in the SURT instruction post. Still found errors. So ran windows update to obtain any erroer code. It looks like it has updated some bits and bats but instead of the usual 18 updates this time it was saying 32 updates, so I imagine it has updated some of the new stuff. After this, took a photo of the error code, then went about zipping the Windows/logs cbs stuff. Attached you should find a pic of error code in updates, and my log file, zipped which should include one, and this being the most recent, cbspersist file. Then further previous cbs persist files attached also. Hope that's everything required

I still tend toward the opinion that the problem is caused by KB3004394 - please re-check the listing of Installed Updates (not the history) and see if it's listed, and uninstall it if it is.

I don't suppose you have a System Restore point available from just before 10 December??

This is the first attempt that failed (top of the list), picture slightly blurs at the top, but the date is 11th Dec. You can can see other Windows updates failed also lower down (KB3009736 & KB3014406). The last successful 'Update for Windows 7' was KB3006121, also on 11th December.

The thing is that all those failures were from the 10/12 updates (installed 'a day late') - so there was definitely something amiss there. The fact that the KB3004394 also failed could simply be because of the havoc it wreaked when partially-installed prior to reboot.
So - do you have a System Restore point, or not?
