Can I Delete Windows Installer 0 Byte MSI Files ?

I have 3717 files with the spec MSIxxxxx.TMP. Most were created on on 5/4/22. I cannot manually delete them although they have no attributes protecting them.
Are they occupying significant space on a SSD?
I've attached an image of what I describe as a snip from ZTreeWin in the attachment

They are tmp files some may be in use but you can try deleting them leave them in the bin for a few days in case then you can roll back if there are any problems

Deleetion Triggers Error 5, Access Denied

I tried deleting a few of these in ZTreeWin and encountered the error, Access Denied [5] so I can't put them in the Trash.

Given the number of these, all on the same day, I am tempted to conclude that one of the Win7 patches that show up from time-to-time somehow went awry.

Do you have any sense how much space on my SDD these TMP files really require? Perhaps they aren't worth the effort.

Run disk clean and see if that removes them

I See the Same Error 5 Message

Hi Samuria

Disk Clean returns the same error 5 message.

When I last ran it, I snipped and combined the list of targets presented. I've attached the combined entries.

Under System queued Windows Error Reporting…There are 2 entries. One is 18.9 GB and the other is 1.84 GB

I tried deleting the and Disk Clean returned Error 5 for both.

In ZTreeWin I can't find files this size. Does Disk Clean combine files and delete them all at once?

For the sake of completeness, I've attached what I find in ZTree.

Where does Win7 queue the error reports and what are they called?

Your first screenshot show tmp files from may. But your new screenshot is from october 22. Do you remember what where you doing at 11:21am?

Anyway. The first thing I would do would be a scandisk of C: drive.


You can try delete them from the command line:

- Open a command line window as administrator:

- Then execute the command : del \windows\installer\*.tmp
