Solved Can I.E.8 be removed before installing 9

I am wondering if their is a way to download I.E.9 to desktop and then remove I.E.8 and then open desktop and install I.E.9 ?
If that can be done would it be a good way to get a clean install?

No it can't; and it's not necessary. IE9 will just update 8-9.

True, but then you most likely couldn't use IE9 - which the OP does want to use; was just worrying about a "clean" install of IE9.

Why wouldn't you be able to install IE9 after turning off IE8? That may give the clean install of IE9 the OP wanted.

I doubt it since the files are still there. That's my take, If I'm wrong I'm wrong.

BTW I would imagine that turning it (IE8) off in Windows Features would probably get turned back on with IE9 getting installed... or you might get an error/warning saying it needs to be turned on in order for IE9 to be installed.

And agian, turning off IE8 isn't going to delete the files.

We know you can disable it, but that's not the same as "removing" it. The files are still there

I guess he wen't through the entire system and removed every file associated with IE8, then decided to install IE9

With vLite you can actually remove it. But who wants to go thru such trouble. And what is the gain?

Well I guess I remove my electronics and computers every night and reinstall them every morning.... I see the light
