Can I format my HD before I upgrade to Windows7 Home Premium? I currently have XP installed....with a ton of garbage on the HD.

I was under the impression that I needed to do a "custom" install. Looks like I'll be doing a clean install.

Those are pretty much one in the same. Just backup any important data to an external drive or another computer, wipe the drive clean, and then boot from your Windows 7 disc (unless you have an upgrade version).

If you want to cleanup the disk before a win7 installation, burn a live CD or USB stick of Partition Wizard (see the left pane of the webpage). That way you can operate independent of any OS. That is a real good program for any disk operations.

Just make sure you back up files before upgrading, and then do Install from XP then do the same for the Windows 7 Disc
