I have a router with a Windows 7 PC and a Linux laptop both plugged into it via ethernet cables.

Neither pc can see each other under 'network'.

Where do I start?

I'm running a KDE version of Linux called 'Pardus', which is no longer being supported. In the very near future I'll be installing Linux Mint 13 so any help for Mint would be welcome.

Thanks.
