Of course you can. What's more, install W7 for x86 and then apply almost all the drivers from the Vista Drivers' CD, except the Video Drivers, which must be taken from the intel page --> gm965 graphic drivers for W7-RC.

It runs like a rocket, very very fast, it surprised me.

Where to buy upgrade for Inspiron 1525?

I am finding it difficult to get to buy an upgrade for my Vista home basic based Inspiron 1525.

If I buy the licence from anywehere else and try to install it on Inspiron 1525, will it work? Or do I have to buy it from Dell itself??

I am still wondering what to do....:o:sarc:

I just installed the 64 bit, dell input driver r244796, on the Dell Inspiron 1525, and the scrolling does work. This should work for 64bit Vista or Windows 7. Here's the link for the download....

OP, to answer your question...yes and no. Yes, it will run Windows 7, but no, it won't run the RC, because the time period has expired for that. The testing, trying phase is over, so at this point you know if Windows 7 will work for you or not. You're laptop far exceeds the minimums, so if you want Windows 7, go for it.

I would like to point out that stanIam has posted in a thread from June of last year. The other thread seems to be from November. Actually, all of stans post are him linking to that driver on old as dirt threads.

Also, some drivers from Dell are screwy. The touchpad driver for newer models of their computers work just fine. I use the Vostro 1720 driver on my Vostro 1700 with no problem, mainly because it is the exact same touchpad.

Petey7,

sorry about that. I didn't even notice the title of this forum. Let me give you a brief history before you hate me to much.

I spent the last 8 hours reading different forums and downloading different drivers to get the scroll to work on my Dell Inspiron 1525, running 64 bit window 7. There was no forum that actually gave the correct advice and the correct link. Therefore, when I finally found the download link to the correct driver, I told myself I'm going to make it easier for anybody else who is looking for this driver.

So don't hate me to much for posting this on the wrong forum. I was posting it to about 10 different forum and I guess this forum wasn't the correct place. Just in case somebody reading this forum is looking for the correct driver, the link is...

The main thing is that you posted to multiple THREADS. A FORUM is a website. A thread is an individual discussion on a forum website. You posted the same thing to multiple threads on one website, pushing current problems farther down the list of threads on the first page of this and the Drivers section. Now people are mostly going to see old cases instead of new ones when only checking the first page for people to help. Posting to one thread would have been fine, although I think a newer one would have been better than this one. It gets the info out there and we can find it to help people in the future. For that I thank you. I had a similar problem with my Dell Vostro 1700 so I understand the frustration.

Sorry if I come off as mean or rude. I just want to make the point not to this in the future, and explain the mess it causes. Thanks for trying to help, and if you see a new thread that has a problem you know the solution to, feel free to post.
