I have a couple of admin accounts, and used to run Resource Monitor from all 3 of them. Now I can't run it at all. Based on a thread on a Microsoft forum, I uninstalled Windows update KB2670838, and then all was fine. Now my system, which is supposed to wait for my permission to update, has updated overnight (as usual), and reinstalled this update.

Any help with how to get Resource Manger running again without constantly uninstalling this update? :sarc:

From what I could find out, the KB2670838 update is a necessary prerequisite for IE10. If it's uninstalled, and if one chooses to use IE10, the update will reinstall itself. This Microsoft forum thread is only 6 days old as of today (3/22) and gives a bit more info.

Thanks for the reply & info about the "evil update" :-)
My system checks for updates automatically, but is "supposed" to wait and prompt for an OK before installing. However that is not how it seems to work: if I ignore updates for a bit, or even refuse an update, I will eventually find my computer has rebooted overnight, and installed new updates. I never install anything that is not part of the automatic checks, so no early release stuff. So who knows how I got this update in February, and again now very recently?
I don't have many of the symptoms listed, but I do seem to be having SMTP & telnet connection delays and problems since some time in February, but uninstalling the "evil update" did not fix those... :-< just the Resource Monitor problem.

Yikes!
